<br />The Board of Commissioners of Orange County met in adjourned session in
<br />the Commissioners Room of the Courthouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina at
<br />8 o~clock P.M. on Monday, February 8, 1971.
<br />Members Present: Chairman Harvey D, Bennett, and Commissioners William
<br />C, Ray, Henry S, Walker, Ira A. Ward and C. Norman Walker.
<br />Members Absent: None
<br />`• Also present were Quentin Patterson, II. S, Soil Conservation Agent for
<br />Orange County, Bill Thayer, Engineer on the staff oP the U, S. Soil Conservation
<br />Service and John Fridgen, Engineer,
<br />This meeting was held for the purpose of discussing the preliminary
<br />engineering surveq and the general location of the dam site for the Seven Mile
<br />Creek reservoir,
<br />The Soil Conservation representatives stated that test drillings on the
<br />upper site revealed few geologic problems would be encountered and that the
<br />upper dam site and the lower dam site was free of faults, Mr, Pridgen
<br />presented maps and reported on the topographic survey which his firm was
<br />preparing. Discussion ensued.
<br />The Board instructed Mr. Pridgen to investigate thoroughly the possibility
<br />of locating the dam at the lower site which is nearest highway I-85, however,
<br />there is not to be undertaken any sub surface drilling at this location until
<br />the Board so authorizes,
<br />Quentin Pattarson.atated that there existed, several miles North of Lake
<br />Orange, an ideal site for .a wildlife feeding area. He stated that his agency
<br />was exploring the possibility of developing this site and that he would
<br />periodically be giving a progress report to the Board relative to the sit~~a:
<br />There being no further business to some before the Board the meeting was
<br />adjourned.

<br />The Board of County Commissioners of Orang® County met at 5:30 o~clock P,M,
<br />on Monday, February 22, 1971 at the Courthouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina.
<br />Members Present: Chairman Harvey D, Bennett and Commissioners Henry S,
<br />Walker, Norman Walker and lra A, Ward,
<br />Members Absent: Commissioner William C, Ray,
<br />The Board approved a road petition for 1500 feet of SR 1831 to the secondary
<br />apstem and directed the petition be sent on to the State Highway Department.
<br />Ebert Pierce, County Extension Chairman and Quentin Patterson, Soil
<br />- Conservation District Agent were present to accompany the Beard members to the
<br />annual meetS.ng of the Resources Conservation and Development CommissSon in
<br />Reidsville, North Carolina. Principal speaker for the occasion was Charles Bartlett,
<br />State Soil Conservationist, At the conclusion of Mr, Bartlett~s presentation,
<br />Robert Powell, Area Coordinator for the six counties Resouraea Conservation and
<br />Development Program presented a slide showing the projects of the District.
<br />There being na further business to come before the Board the meeting was
<br />adjourned.
