<br />MI:TTJTES OF THE ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />February 23, 1970 <br />BOOK ~ "r,GE 2~e9 <br />The Board of Commissioners of Orange County met in special session at <br />3 o~olock P.M, on Monday, February 23, 1970, in the District Courtroom at the <br />Courthouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina. <br />Members Present: Chairman Carl M. Smith and Commissioners Harvey D. <br />Bennett, William C. Ray, Henry S. Walker and Ira A, Ward. <br />Members Absent: None <br />The following representatives of the State Highway Commission were present: <br />Clifton Benson, Division Highway Commissioner, P. L. Welch, Division Engineer, <br />Earl Hoover, District Engineer, and Bryant Brewer, County Maintenance Supervisor. <br />The meeting was held for the purpose of discussing with the representatives <br />o£ the State Highway Commission the secondary road plan, which would be instituted <br />in 1970, for Crange County. <br />Discussion ensued relative to the following roads: Aacesa road to Orange <br />High School from N. C. Highway 86, access road to Chapel Hill High School from <br />Estes ]}rive Extension, Secondary road 1333, which leads into Lake Orange, <br />Secondary road 1179, which is an extensicn of the Union Grove Church road, the <br />Jack Walker road, the Marvin Ebans road and Highway ~ eastward from Chapel Hill <br />to Raleigh. The Board of Commissioners stated that in their opinion the above <br />referred roads were of vital importance to Orange County, <br />Mr. Benson advised the Board that the improvements to Highway 5L}, eastward <br />fron Chapel Hill to Raleigh, held the highest priority rating, as fax as he <br />was personally concerned, however, until the designated route for Interstate L}0 <br />in the Durham area was determined any plans for improving highway sly must be <br />deferred as there is a probability that Highway 51~ would'be routed into Interstate <br />40. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board said meeting was <br />adjourned. <br />Carl M. Gatti s, Acting Clerk <br />MINIITES-OF THE ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />February 26, 1970 <br />The Board of Commissioners of Orange County met in adjourned session at 8 <br />o~elock P.M, on Thursday, February 25, 1970, in the Courtroom at the Courthouse <br />in Hillsborough, North Carolina. <br />Members Present: Chairman Carl M. Smith and Commissioners William C. Ray, <br />Harvey' D. Bennett, Henry S. Walker and Ira A. Ward. <br />Members Absent: None <br />This meeting was held for the purpose oP conducting a public hearing in <br />conjunction with the County Planning Board relative to an amendment to the Chapel <br />Hill Township Zoning Ordinance. <br />Chairman Carl Smith called the meeting to order and than turned the chair over <br />tc Charlie Johnston, Chairman of the County Planning Board. Mr. Johnston proceeded <br />to conduct the public hearing. <br />The minutes of this public hearing will be duly recorded in the Minute Ibeket <br />Book of the County Planning Board. <br />At the conclusion of the public hearing Chairman Johnston turned the chair back <br />to Chairman Carl Smith. <br />There being no further business to come before the public hearing said meeting <br />was adjourned. <br />Carl M.
