MINUTES OF THE ORANGE COUNTY 7 rrl 195 <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />May 5, 1969 <br />The Board of County Commissioners of Orange County met in the Commissioners <br />Room of the Courthouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina at 10:00 o'clock A.M. <br />on Monday, May 5, 1969. <br />Members Present: Chairman Carl M. Smith and Commissioners Harvey D. Bennett, <br />William C. Ray, Henry S. Walker and Ira A. Ward. <br />Members Absent: None <br />The minutes of the previous meetings were read by the Clerk and approved <br />by the Board. <br />Ebert Pierce, County Extension Chairman, was introduced to the members of <br />the Board by the County Administrator. Mr. Pierce was welcomed to Orange <br />County by the Chairman. <br />Norman Long, Zoning Officer, stated that he had five (5) requests for <br />rezoning and that a date for a public hearing should be set by the Board. It <br />was agreed that Mr. Long should advertise that the public hearing for rezoning <br />would be scheduled for Monday, May 26, 1969, 8 P.M. at the courthouse in <br />Hillsborough, North Carolina. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Bennett, seconded by Commissioner Walker, it <br />was moved and unanimously.adopted, that Lonnie Evans of East Graham Street, <br />Mebane, North Carolina.be appointed to fill the unexpired term of J. Willard <br />Oakley on the Mebane Planning Board. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Ray, seconded by Commissioner Ward, the following <br />resolution was unanimously adopted: <br />RESOLUTION <br />"WHEREAS, the county of Orange recognizes the value of planning <br />for the improvement of law enforcement and the criminal justice system <br />in North Carolina; and <br />WHEREAS, the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 <br />provides matching funds to permit planning for the future of law enforcement <br />and the criminal justice system; and <br />WHEREAS, these planning funds are available to local government <br />planning units through the Governor's Committee on Law and Order in <br />North Carolina: <br />BE IT, THEREFORE, RESOLVED THAT THE county of Orange does agree <br />to participate in joint law enforcement and criminal justice planning <br />efforts in cooperation with other units of local government in this <br />area of North Carolina through the Tri County Law Enforcement Planning <br />Agency. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we hereby appoint C. D. Knight, Sheriff and <br />Commissioner Henry S. Walker, Route 1, Hillsborough, N. C. from Orange <br />County who will serve on the planning board, to serve on the law enforcement <br />planning board of Tri County Law Enforcement Planning Agency. <br />Adopted this 5th day of May, 1969. <br />/s/ Carl. Smith <br />Chairman of Board of County o ssloners <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Ray, seconded by Commissioner Walker, the <br />following resolution was adopted: <br />RESOLUTION ADOPTED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF ORANGE <br />COUNTY IN SUPPORT OF THE POSITION OF THE NORTH CAROLINA ASSOCIATION OF <br />REGISTERS OF DEEDS WITH REGARD TO SENATE BILL 389 (UNIFORM COMMERCIAL <br />CODE AMENDMENTS). <br />WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners have considered the position <br />of the North Carolina Association of Registers of Deeds taken with respect to <br />SB 389 and find that the Registers of Deeds are opposed to those parts of <br />the proposed bill which would: <br />(1) require the separate indexing of financing statements including <br />crops either in the real estate indexes or the index to financing Statements,
