7 . e'r 185 <br />Chairman Smith called the hearing to order and then turned the chair <br />over to Charles Johnston, Chairman of the County Planning Board, who then <br />proceeded to conduct the public hearing. <br />For minutes of this hearing reference is hereby made to the minute <br />docket of the Orange County Planning Board. <br />Chairman Johnston turned the chair back to Chairman Smith who then <br />declared the public hearing adjourned and Chairman Smith then reconvened <br />the Orange County Board of Commissioners for the purpose of transacting County <br />business. <br />Chairman Smith advised the Board that Aubrey Harward, the County appointee <br />to the Carrboro Board of Adjustments, is no longer eligible to serve on said <br />Board, as his area has been annexed into the Town of Carrboro. Mr. Harward's <br />term expires on April 18, 1969. <br />Chairman Smith stated that Wayne Lacock had been recommended by the <br />Carrboro Town Board to fill the unexpired term of Aubrey Harward. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Ward, seconded by Commissioner Bennett, it <br />was moved and unanimously adopted that Wayne Lacock, Weaver Road, Carrboro, <br />North Carolina, be appointed to fill the unexpired term of Aubrey Harward <br />on the Carrboro Board of Adjustments. <br />Chairman Smith reported to the Board that he had talked with Dr. W. G. <br />Andrews, District Extension Chairman, relative to the matter of the appointment <br />of Ebert Pierce as the County Extension Chairman for the county. Discussion <br />ensued and it was agreed that the position of County Extension Chairman would be <br />offered to Mr. Pierce by Dr. Andrews provided that Mr. Pierce would accept the <br />salary of $11,850.00 annually with $5,100.00 being paid by the County and <br />$6,750.00 being paid by the State Agricultural Extension Service. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board said meeting <br />was adjourned to meet again on Thursday, March 27, 1969s at 4 P.M. in the <br />office of Dr. 0. Gattis, Acting Clerk <br />MINUTES OF THE ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />March 27, 1969 <br />The Board of Commissioners for the County of Orange, North Carolina, met <br />in adjourned session in the office of the District Health Department, Chapel <br />Hill, North Carolina at 4 P.M. on Thursday, March 27, 1969. <br />Members Present: Chairman Carl M. Smith and Commissioners Harvey D. Bennett, <br />William C. Ray, Henry S. Walker and Ira A. Ward. <br />- Members Absent: None <br />Dr. 0. David Garvin, District Health Director, reviewed the type of Health <br />services which the District Health Department was rendering in Orange County. He <br />stated that a large portion of these programs were being financed by State and <br />Federal Funds, however, some of these funds are bein7. withdrawn from the District <br />Health Department and if the programs, such as prenatal-clinics and pediatric <br />clinics, are to be continued then local funds must be allocated. <br />Dr. Garvin reported that the United States Department of Agriculture would <br />provide a supplemental food program for infants, pre-school children and pregnant <br />mothers who were in need of proper nutrition. The goal of this program is to <br />assist in the securing of proper diet in the hopes of offsetting physical handicaps <br />and mental retardation among the low income groups. Dr. Garvin stated that if this <br />program was instituted then the County would re-open its commodity distribution <br />warehouse.
