BACKGROUND: This project is included in the 1999-2009 Capital Investment Plan and includes the following scope of work: ^ Installation of new electrical panels; ^ Installation of light switches in individual areas (lights for the whole building are presently turned on at the electrical panel) ^ Installation of new lighting throughout building ^ Installation of suspended ceiling throughout building in all areas where suspended ceiling does not already exist. Bids were solicited from six contractors. Three bidders responded to the May 4, 2000 bid opening. As per the attached tabulation, bids ranged from $57,225 to $88,873. Work included in Alternate #1 includes the installation of electronic ballasts and T-8 bulbs throughout the building. This work is necessary to ensure that the energy goals are met. Since County staff could accomplish this work if necessary, the work was priced separately to allow flexibility in the event the project went over budget. However, the funds appropriated are sufficient to support the $6,100 alternate. FINANCIAL IMPACT: Funds are appropriated in the 1999-2009 Capital Investment Plan and are sufficient to cover the recommended bid award amount of $$57,225. RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the bid be awarded to Gwynn Electric in an amount not to exceed $57,225; and authorize the Chair to sign on behalf of the Board.
