?54 <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Ray, seconded by Commissioner Cleveland, the two <br />road programs as presented by the representatives of the State Highway Commission <br />was unanimously accepted. <br />There being no further business to come before the meeting same as adjourned <br />to meet again on Thursday, June 23, 1966, at 7:30 p.m. with the County Board of <br />Education to discuss their 1966-67 budget. <br />Harvey D. Gattis, Acting Clerk <br />MINUTES OF THE ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />June 23, 1966 <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in special session on Thursday, <br />June 23, 1966 at 7:30 p.m. in the Commissioners room at the courthouse in <br />Hillsborough, North Carolina. <br />Members present: Chairman Harvey D. Bennett, Commissioners William C. Ray, <br />Carl M. Smith, Gordon Cleveland and Henry S. Walker. <br />Members absent: None <br />This meeting was held for the purpose of budget discussion with the Orange <br />County School Board and G. Paul Carr, Superintendent of the Orange County School <br />Unit. Discussion ensued concerning the proposed school budget. No action was <br />taken. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Smith, seconded by Commissioner Walker, it was <br />moved and unanimously adopted that, Howard M. Compton be re-appointed to the <br />Orange County Welfare Board for a three (3) year term. Said term to become <br />effective as of July 1, 1966. <br />Chairman Bennett read a letter from George Spransy representative of the <br />American Field Service of Chapel Hill. Mr. Spransy requested permission to hold a <br />fireworks display on Fetzer Field at the University of North Carolina on July 4, <br />1966. <br />The Board directed.the Clerk to issue to Mr. Spransy a permit which would give <br />permission to the American Field Service of Chapel Hill to hold a fireworks display <br />at Fetzer Field on Monday, July 4, 1966. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board said meeting was <br />adjourned to meet again Monday, June 27, 1966 at 7:30 p.m. with the County Welfare <br />Board to discuss their proposed 1966-67 budget. <br />Harvey D.
