Minutes of the Board of Counter Commissioners <br />July 19, 1965 <br />405 <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in adjourned session on Monday, July 19, 1965: <br />at 10:00 o'clock A.M., in the Commissioners Room in the Courthouse in Hillsborough, NT. C. <br />Plembers Dresent: Chairman Harvey D. Bennett, Commissioners Gordon B. Cleveland, William C. <br />Say, Henry S. Walker and Carl M. Smith. <br />I-:embers absent: None. <br />Willard Swiers, Superintendent of the Chapel Hill Schools; Grey Culbreth, Chairman of the <br />Chapel ?Mill Board of Education and Board members Richard Peters, Airs. Ross Scroggs, and Ben Perry <br />were present. Dr. Swiers presented on behalf of his Board a request that the Supplementary Tax <br />rate be set at 180 rather than the 17¢ presently proposed. <br />Dr. Swiers also advised the Board of Commissioners that his Board needed an additional 325,000 <br />before it could sign a contract for the new Frank Porter Graham School project. The Chapel Hill School <br />Board would like for the Board of Commissioners to do one of the following: <br />(1) Add an additional $30,000 to their capital outlay budget. <br />(2) Aid them in Borrowing 330,000 from the State Literary Fund. <br />(3) Issue a letter to them saying that the Board of Commissioners will appropriate at <br />.least $30,000 in next _ear's capital outlay budget for new buildings and grounds. <br />After consideration of all these requests Commissioner Cleveland moved that the Board set <br />the school supplementary tax at 18¢. This motion died for lack of a second. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Cleveland, seconded by Commissioner Smith., it was unanimously <br />adopted that the Board issue a letter to the Chapel Hill School Board stating that the Board of <br />Commissioners would appropriate to that unit at least $30,000 in their 1966--1967 capital outlay <br />budget for new buildings and grounds. <br />The County Accountant advised the Board of a new budgetary request received from the Soil <br />Conservation Service for an appropriation increase. After reviewing this request the Board decided <br />to increase the appropriation to the Soil Conservation District to :$1,711.00. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Smith, seconded by Commissioner Cleveland, the following <br />Appropriations Resolution was unanimously adopted: <br />APp30FRIATIONS RESOLUTION <br />To Implement decisions reached by the 9oaid of Commissioners during its budgetary discussions <br />the following appropriations are hereby made: <br />For the Bond Fund the sum of $ 24,075.00 <br /> veneral Fund the s%im. of 424.,Li00.00 <br /> <br />" Property Revaluation the stun of 20 000.00. <br /> Public Health the sum of 82,500.00 <br /> School Current Expense the sum of 44o,656.00 <br /> School Capital Outlay the sum of 544,900.00 <br /> School Debt Service the sum of 293,250.00 <br />It " General :welfare Fund the sum of 171,274.00 <br />" It Aid to Families with Depend.
