Minutes of the Board of County Commissioners <br />September 14, 1964 <br />367 <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners Yet in adjourned session on Monday, September <br />l4, 1964, at 8:00 o'clock p.m. in the Commissioners Room at the Courthouse in Hillsboro, N. C. <br />The purpose of this meeting was to interview Paul Siebel of Chapel Hill, N. C. for the position of <br />Community Services Consultant for Orange County. <br />Members present: Chairman Donald M. Stanford, Commissioners Harvey D. Bennett, Gordon B. <br />Cleveland, Carl M. Smith and Henry S. Walker. <br />Members absent: None. <br />Mr. Siebel briefed the Board as to his background. He stated that he was retired from the <br />U. S. Army after twenty years service. At the present time he is studying at the University of <br />North Carolina. Mr. Siebel has been a resident of Orange County for two years, is married with <br />two daughters and is a member of the Lutheran Church. He felt that his varied army experiences <br />would be of tremendous importance in helping him in the administrative position for which he was <br />applying. <br />The Board discussed the proposed programs which could be instituted under the Employment <br />Opportunities Act and other phases of the position for which he was applying. <br />In order to get the proposed program of the Employment Opportunities Act instituted, the <br />Board began to consider names for appointment to the County Advisory Committee. Allison <br />Harvey Ray Bill Thompson <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Bennett, seconded by Commissioner Walker, the following persons <br />were appointed to the County Advisory Committee: <br />Mrs. Jean Rogers Harvey Ray C. W. Davis <br />Mrs. Floy T. Oldham, Jr. Belton H. Edwards Mrs. Robert Kirk <br />James H. Peace Mrs. Dorothy Kiester Marion E. Allison <br />Graham Creel R. Hume Claytor, Jr. Walter G. Wren <br />Rev. Clarke Porter, III W. E. Thompson Mrs. Flats Evans Poole <br />Richard Roberts <br />The Clerk was instructed to notit)r each member of his appointment. <br />Chairman Stanford brought to the attention of the Board a request presented by A. H. <br />Graham, Sr. concerning the brick from the Walker building. Mr. Graham would like for the County <br />to have the building taken down and save the old brick for the errection of a wall around the old <br />courthouse. <br />Discussion ensued concerning said request. It was pointed out that at the September 8th <br />meeting of the Board the County Administrator had been authorized to notify Mr. Freeland that his <br />offer to tear down the building in exchange for the bricks had been accepted. The Board agreed to <br />take no action on Mr. Graham's request until further information could be secured. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Bennett, seconded by Commissioner Walker, and unanimously <br />adopted, the Clerk to the Board was requested to write Louis 0. Christian, Division of Community <br />Services, N. C. Board of Public Welfare, Raleigh, N. C. and request that Paul Siebel be assigned <br />to Orange County as Community Services Consultant. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned. <br />Donald Stanford, Chairman <br />Betty June Hayes <br />Clark
