<br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met on Monday, July 6, 1964, at 10:00 o'clock
<br />A.M., in the Commissioners Room in the Courthouse in Hillsboro, N. C.
<br />Members Present: Chairman Donald Stanford, Commissioners Harvey Bennett, Gordon Cleveland,
<br />Henry S. Walker and Carl M. Smith.
<br />Members absent: None
<br />The minutes were read and approved after an addition was made to the minutes of June 19, 1964.
<br />The following department officials presented their reports for the month of June, 1964:
<br />E. M. Lynch, Clerk of Court
<br />Cashe Boggs, Dog Warden
<br />James Wight, Welfare Director
<br />Jessie Trowbridge, Home Demonstration Agent, introduced Mrs. Jane H. Hill, the new Assistant
<br />Home Demonstration Agent, to the Board. Mrs. Hill will replace Jane Recktenwald in this position.
<br />Her salary is to be the same as Mrs. Recktenwald is now receiving.
<br />Discussion ensued concerning the fair which is being sponsored by the Carrboro Lions Club.
<br />In past years the license fee has been waived for this occasion. Upon motion of Comaissioner Bennett,
<br />seconded by Commissioner Smith and unanimously adopted, the license fee of $200.00 for the Ca.rrboro
<br />Lions Club Fair was waived.
<br />J Commissioner Stanford, on behalf of the Board, expressed appreciation to Commissioner Smith
<br />for his work on the Health Planning Council for Central North Carolina.
<br />Cpmmi.ssioner Stanford brought to the attention of the Board that he had received complaints
<br />concerning excess noise made by fox hunters in certain neighborhoods in the County. The Board was
<br />not certain as to its jurisdiction in this matter, and same was referred to the County Attorney
<br />for a legal opinion.
<br />The County Attorney advised the Board that Robert Cooper, President of the Orange County
<br />Bar Association, is investigating the possibilities of securing someone who would accept the
<br />position of Assistant Recorder's Court Judge.
<br />Juries were drawn for the following terms of court:
<br />August 10 Criminal Term 80 ==a
<br />Special August 17 Criminal Term 59 names
<br />Special August 24 Criminal Term 59 names
<br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned-to meet
<br />on July 7, 1964, at 8:00 o'clock P.M.

<br />The Orange County Board of 00-imissioners met in adjourned session on Tuesday, July 7, 1964,
<br />at 8:00 o'clock P.M., in the Commissioners Room in the Courthouse in Hillsboro, N. C., to continue
<br />work on the 1964--1965 budget.
<br />--- Members Present: Chairman Donald Tatnford, Commissioners Harvey Bennett, Gordon Cleveland,
<br />Henry S. Walker and Carl M. Smith.
<br />Members absent: None.
<br />Howard Thompson, superindendent of the Chapel Hill School System, presented the 1964--1965
<br />budget request for his unit. Mr. Thompson was accompanied by members of the Chapel Hill School Board.
<br />The current expense request of the Chapel Hill unit was $174,496.00 and their capital outlay
<br />request was $430,000.00.
<br />After considerable discussion of the proposed budget, the Chairman advised Mr. Thompson that
<br />the Board would reach a decision as soon as practical and would inform him of their action immediately
<br />following such a decision.
<br />Ed Barnes, Orange County Extension Chairman, presented the budget request of the extension
<br />service. This request was taken under advisement.
<br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned to meet
<br />on July 13, 1964, at 8:00 o'clock P.M.
