314 <br />Discussion ensued with the Trustees and the Superintendent of the School Unit <br />concerning their proposed budget. The Trustees and the Superintendent were advised <br />that the decision of the Board would be made known to them at a later date. <br />Henry Hogan, Reid Roberts and Quentin Patterson, representatives of the Reuse <br />River Soil Conservation District, requested that funds be made available to them in <br />order to hire a part time secretary. They explained that no Federal funds were <br />available to them for clerical help. The Board advised these representatives that <br />they would take their request under consideration. <br />Chairman Stanford read a letter from Robert Boyce, representative of the <br />American Field Service. Mr. Boyce requested permission for the American Field <br />Service to stage its annual fireworks display in Chapel Hill on Thursday, July 4, <br />1963. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Walker, seconded by Commissioner Bennett, and <br />unanimously adopted, the American Field Service was granted permission to stage <br />its annual fireworks display in Chapel Rill on Thursday, July 4, 1963• <br />The meeting was adjourned to meet again on Tuesday, June 18th at 8 o'clock <br />p.m. <br />S. C. <br />Members present: Chairman Donald Stanford, Commissioners Harvey D. Bennett, <br />Gordon Cleveland, Carl M. Smith and Henry S. Walker. <br />Members absent: None <br />Members of the County Board of Education were present. G. Paul Carr, Supt. of <br />said Unit explained the proposed budget. After the explanation, a general question <br />and answer session ensued. <br />J. A. McMahon, a member of the County Board of Welfare, and James Wight, <br />Welfare Director, presented the proposed budget for the Welfare Department. Discus- <br />sion ensued. <br />There being no further business, the meeting adjourned to meet again on Wednes- <br />day, June 19th at 8 o'clock p.m. <br />S. M. Gattis <br />Acting Clerk <br />Donald Stanford <br />Chairman <br />Minutes of the Hoard of County Commissioners <br />June 19, 1963 <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in special session on Wednesday, <br />June 19, 1963, at 8 o'clock p.m, in the Commissioners room at the courthouse in <br />Hillsboro, N. C. <br />Members present: Chairman Donald Stanford, Commissioners Harvey D. Bennett, <br />Gordon Cleveland and Carl M. Smith. <br />Members absent: Commissioner Henry.S. Walker <br />The purpose of this meeting was to continue discussion of the proposed 1963- <br />1964 budget. <br />The Clerk of Court, Register of Deeds, and County Accountant presented their <br />budgets. These were all discussed. The County Accountant reviewed with the Board <br />the remaining General Fund budgets. <br />The Register of Deeds informed the Board that under G.S. 161-11.1 the Boards <br />of County Commissioners are authorized to set the fee for the recording and releasing <br />of federal tax liens. The maximum fee authorized is $2.00 for recording end $2.00 <br />for the releasing of said lien.
