1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: May 16, 2023 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 4-a <br /> SUBJECT: Proclamation Recognizing the Success and Accomplishments of Orange <br /> County High School Robotics Teams <br /> DEPARTMENT: Board of Commissioners <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Proclamation Jamezetta Bedford, Chair, 919-245-2130 <br /> Laura Jensen, Clerk to the Board, 919- <br /> 245-2130 <br /> PURPOSE: To consider a proclamation recognizing five Orange County high schools for their <br /> robotics teams' recent success and accomplishments. <br /> BACKGROUND: Four robotics teams representing five high schools in Orange County have <br /> had recent successes at state and international robotics competitions. Team 587, The <br /> Hedgehogs, won the First Robotics Competition North Carolina District State Championship, <br /> and the team was subsequently invited to compete in the international First Robotics <br /> Championship. Team 4795, Eastbots, achieved the top ranking in the North Carolina district <br /> and was also invited to the international First Robotics Championship. The Hedgehogs and <br /> Eastbots both reached the playoffs at their divisions in the First Robotics Championship. Team <br /> 4829, Titanium Tigers, won the Johnston County District event and later competed at the North <br /> Carolina District State Championship. Team 7763, Carrborobotics, won the UNC Pembroke <br /> District Event and also competed at the North Carolina District State Championship. These four <br /> teams inspire students of all ages to pursue STEM opportunities through robotics. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with this item. <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: There is no Orange County Social Justice Goal impact associated <br /> with this item. <br /> ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: There is no Orange County Environmental Responsibility Goal <br /> impact associated with this item. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends the Board approve and authorize the <br /> Chair to sign the proclamation recognizing the success and accomplishments of Orange County <br /> high schools' robotics teams. <br />
