304 <br />We respectfully request that your honorable Boards approve this recommendation, <br />in order that, upon such approval, the territory of the District be enlarged, as <br />provided in the cited statute, to inolude the above-described territory. <br />We further request that, upon such approval, the Board of County Commissioners <br />levy the fire protection district tax upon the property included in this territory <br />in the fiscal year next following after such approval, and that the Board of Alder- <br />men furnish fire protection to the territory immediately upon such approval in the <br />same fashion ea it now protects property in the present District, under contract <br />of September 10, 1956. <br />(February 25, 1963. <br />/a/ John Alexander McMahon <br />Commissioner <br />/a/ E. G. Merritt <br />Commissioner <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Walker, seconded by Commissioner Cleveland, and <br />unanimously adopted, Sohn Alexander McMahon and E. G. Merritt were re-appointed as <br />Commissioners of the Greater Chapel Hill Fire Protection District Commission, and <br />the properties owned by Kenneth Ness and Clarence Beer were added to the area of <br />the Greater Chapel Hill Fire Protection District. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Walker, seconded by Commissioner Bennett, and <br />unanimously adopted, Lee V. Bounds was appointed to fill the unexpired term of <br />Sam McGill as a Commissioner on the Greater Chapel Hill Fire Protection District <br />Commission. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board this meeting was <br />adjourned to meet again on March 18, 1963, as a Board of Equalization and Review. <br />Betty June Hayes <br />Clark <br />Donald Stanford <br />Chairman <br />Minutes of the Board of County Commissioners <br />March 18, 1963 <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in adjourned session on Monday, <br />March 18, 1963, in the Commissioners room at the courthouse in Hillsboro, N. C., at <br />ten o'clock a.m., as a Board of Equalization and Review for 1962. <br />Members present: Chairman Donald Stanford, Commissioners Harvey D. Bennett, <br />Gordon Cleveland, Carl M. Smith and Henry Walker. <br />Members absent: None <br />The Tax Supervisor advised this Board that all business before it had been <br />concluded and that it was appropriate that this body adjourn. Upon motion of <br />Commissioner Walker, seconded by Commissioner Bennett, and unanimously adopted, <br />the Board of Equalization and Review for the year 1962 was adjourned. <br />Chairman Stanford then declared in session the Board of Equalization and <br />Review for the year of 1963. <br />The Clerk of Court administered the oath of office to.eeoh Commissioners <br />as members of the,Board of Equalization and Review. <br />There being no business to come before the Board of Equalization and Review <br />it recessed until the first Monday in September of 1963 <br />The Commissioners then reconvened as a Board of County Commissioners. <br />A delegation headed by Bun Pope and having in its membership prominent farmers <br />from all parts of the county appeared before the Board and gave their support to <br />Ed Barnes as the replacement for Don Matheson as County Farm Agent. <br />Mr. Matheson and Mr. Mintz appeared before the Board. Mr. Mintz advised <br />Chairman Stanford he had the list of several persons from wbich.felt this Board <br />could select a satisfactory Farm Agent. Chairman Stanford then asked Mr. Mintz <br />whether or not the name of Ed Barnes was included. Mr. Mintz advised that this <br />name was included. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Cleveland and duly seconded and adopted, Ed <br />Barnes was appointed as the successor to Don Matheson in the position of County <br />Farm Agent..
