Minutes of the Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />+ <br />October 2, 1962 <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, October 2, 1962, <br />at ten o'clock a.m. in the Commissioners' room at the courthouse in Hillsboro, N. C. <br />Members present: Chairman Donald Stanford, Commissioners Harvey Bennett, Clarence Jones, <br />Donald McDade and Henry Walker. <br />Members absent: None <br />The minutes of the last meeting were read by the Clerk and approved by the Board. <br />The following Department Officials presented reports for the month of September, 1962: <br />Cashe Boggs, Dog Warden <br />Frances Dansk, Asst. Home Demonstration Agent <br />Jim Wight, Director of Welfare <br />E. M. Lynch, Clerk of Court and <br />Walter Wrenn, Veterans Service Officer <br />A discussion arose concerning the forthcoming zoning hearing. It was agreaded that certain <br />rules governing said meeting should be instituted, in order, to provide for an orderly meeting. <br />H. Conway Browning, resident of the Eno Community, spoke in behalf of the Eno Fire Association <br />and requested that the A.B.C. Store #h be enrolled as a member of said Fire Association. Mr. <br />Browning stated that the fee for commercial buildings was 4100.00 and that the A.B.C. Board would <br />pay this fee if the Board of Commissioners would authorize said payment. Mr. Browning's request <br />was taken under advisement. <br />The following road petitions were submitted and the Clerk was requested to mail same to the <br />State Highway Commission. <br />1. Road lf1956 (southern end) <br />2. Terrace View Road <br />3. Markham Drive <br />4. Old Oxford Road <br />5. Howell St. Extension X1907 <br />6. Oak Grove Church Road <br />A petition signed by citizens living on road ,#1713 requesting that the name of the road be <br />changed to Mount Herman Church Road was presented. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Jones, seconded by Commissioner Walker, and unanimously adopted, <br />road #1713 was named Mount Herman Church Road. The Clerk was requested to mail a copy, of said <br />petition to the State Highway Commission and to inform James A. Boland of said action. <br />Chairman Stanford presented a copy of the "Orange County Records Inventory". Said inventory <br />had been made.by the State Department of Archives and History. The purpose of the inventory, was to <br />determine which records should be microfilmed for security purposes and which should be repaired, <br />and to provide county officials with schedules of retention and disposal. <br />The disposal schedules contained in the inventory was discussed. Upon motion of Commissioner <br />Walker, seconded by Commissioner Bennett, and unanimously adopted, each department official was <br />authorized to proceed with the recommendations of the Department of Archives and History as given <br />in the "Orange County Record Inventory", pertaining to the disposal.of records in their respective <br />offices. <br />The Clerk was requested to write the State Department of Archives & History commending them <br />on their program and expressing to them the appreciation of the Board of Commissioners for said <br />inventory and other services rendered to Orange County. <br />George Levings, County Attorney, ask in behalf of the Orange County Bar Association for <br />permission to have affixed on the doors of the courtroom a copy of the Canons of Professional <br />Ethics. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Jones, seconded by Commissioner Bennett, and unanimously adopted, <br />the Orange County Bar Association was granted permission to affix &'•eopy of the Canons of <br />Professional Ethics on the doors of the courtroom. <br />A discussion arose concerning the „park area" in Oakwood Development which is being claimed <br />by the Town of Chapel Hill. The county had advertised this property for tax sale. The County <br />Accountant was requested to i.nvestigate,this matter. <br />The County Accountant and the County Attorney were requested to investigate and make a report <br />to the Board at their next meeting on the matter of the legal requirments necessary to enroll the <br />Eno Fire Association District with the Insurance Commission at Raleigh, N.
