222 Minutes of the Board of Commissioners

<br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met on Monday, June 5, 1961, at ten o'clock a.m, in
<br />the Commissioners room at the courthouse in Hillsboro, N. C.
<br />Members present: Chairman Donald Stanford, Commissioners Harvey Bennett, Clarence D. Jones,
<br />Donald McDade and Henry Walker.
<br />Members absent: None
<br />The minutes of the previous meeting were read by the Clerk and approved by the Board.
<br />The following department officials presented reports for the month of May, 1961:
<br />Cache Boggs, Dog Warden ? Frances Mcaskill, Ylelfare Sept.
<br />Frank Frederick, Delinquent Tax Collector Mrs, David Given, County Librarian
<br />E. M. Lynch, Clark of Court
<br />A road petition was submitted for Morgan Creek road in Chapel Hill, The Clerk was requested
<br />to mail same to the State Highway Commission office in Greensboro, N. C.
<br />A letter from Robert D. Boyce, Chairman of the Chapel Hill Charter of American Field Service,
<br />Student Exchange Program, requesting permission to conduct a fireworks display at Emerson Field in
<br />connection with their annual July lath festivities was read by Chairman Stanford.
<br />Upon motion of Commissioner Jones, seconded by Commissioner Bennett, and unanimously adopted;
<br />Mr. Boyce was granted permission to have a fireworks display on July hth at Emerson Field provided
<br />that adequate precautions would be taken to provide for the publics safety.
<br />The following petitions was received from the Greater Chapel Hill Fire Protection District
<br />Commission:
<br />Pte, the undersigned members of the Greater Chapel Hill Fire Protection District Commission,
<br />in accordance with the provisions of Section 60-25.11(a) of the General Statutes of North Carolina,
<br />as amended by Chapter 302, Session Laws of 1957, and upon application of a majority of the owners of
<br />property in the territory hereinafter described, do hereby unanimously recommend to your Honorable
<br />Hoards that the following described territory be added to the present territory of the said District:
<br />Blocks A and B, comprising thirty-two (32) lots in the North Forest
<br />Hills Sub-division, according to a plat registered in Flat Book 7,
<br />page 36, in the Register of Deeds' Office in Orange County, which
<br />sub-division adjoins the Greater Chapel Hill Fire Protection District
<br />at the boundary of the district.
<br />We respectfully request that your Honorable Boards approve this recommendation, in order that,
<br />upon such approval, the territory of the District be enlarged, as provided in the cited statute, to
<br />include the above-described territory.
<br />We further request that, upon such approval, the Board of County Commissioners levey the fire
<br />protection district tax upon the property included in this territory in the fiscal year next following
<br />such approval, and that the Board of Aldermen furnish lire protection to the territory immediately
<br />upon such approval in the same fashion as it now protects property in the present District, under
<br />contract of September 10, 1956.

<br />We, the undersigned members of the Greater Chapel Hill Fire Protection District Commission,
<br />in accordance with the provisions of Section 60-25(a) of the General Statutes of North Carolina, as
<br />amended by Chapter 302, Session Laws of 1957, and upon application of a majority of the owners of
<br />property in the territory hereinafter described, do hereby unanimously recommend to your Honorable
<br />Boards that the following described territory be added to the present territory of the said District:
<br />Beginning at the point where the center line of N. C. Route k86 crosses
<br />the Northern Boundary of the Greater Chapel Hill Fire Protection District;
<br />running, thence in a Westerly direction, with the Western Boundary of the
<br />said District for a distance of one hundred feet; thence in a Northerly
<br />direction, parellel to N. C. Route R86, and one hundred feet from the
<br />center-line thereof, including property of the University of North Carolina,
<br />to the Southern Boundary of the subdivision known as Glenn Heights; thence in
<br />Westerly and then Northerly direction, following the boundary line between
<br />the property of the University of North Carolina and the said subdivision,
<br />to the Northwest corner of the said subdivision; thence in an Easterly
<br />direction, following the boundary line between the said subdivision and
<br />the property of William Dixon, to N. C. Route m`86; thence in a Southerly
<br />direction, along the center line of N. C. Route `n'86 to the beginning point.
<br />We respectfully request that your Honorable Boards approve this recommendation, in order that,
<br />upon such approval, the territory of the District be enlarged, as provided in the cited statute, to
<br />include the above-described territory.
<br />We further request that, upon such approval, the Board of County Commissioners levy the fire
<br />protection district tax upon the property included in this territory in the fiscal year next
<br />following after such approval, and that the Board of Aldermen furnish fire protection to the
<br />territory immediately upon such approval in the same fashion as it now protects property in the
