192 <br />Minutes of the Board of Commissioners <br />August 1, 1960 <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on August 1, 1960, at too <br />o'clock a.m. in the Commissioners' room at the courthouse in Hillsboro, N. C. <br />Members present: Chairman R. J. M. Hobbs, Commissioners Donald McDade and Henry Walker. <br />Members absent: Commissioners Clarence Jones and Donald Stanford. <br />The kinutes for the nine (9) meetings held during the month of July were read by the <br />Clerk and approved by the Board. <br />The following Department Officials presented reports for the month of July, 1960. <br />Frank Frederick, Delinquent Tax Collector <br />Cache Boggs, Dog Warden <br />C. D. Knight, Sheriff <br />E. M. Lynch, Clark of Court <br />Jane Parker, Welfare Sept. and <br />Walter Green, Veteran's Service Officer. <br />E. M. Lynch, Clerk of Superior Court, requested that the position of Deputy Clerk be created <br />in his office. He requested that the salary be increased to a grade 4 and that the pay increase <br />be raised to either $25.00 or $30.00 per month. Action an this request was deferred until a <br />full Board could be present. <br />Deputy Sheriff,Rainey Roberts, requested that his salary be raised $16.50 per month so <br />that it would be equal to that of the Chief Deputy. No action was taken an Mr. Roberts' request. <br />Charlie Atwater of Chapel Hill requested paving for the rural road that leads from White <br />Cross to Antioch Church. The Board suggested that Mr. Atwater submit a road petition to them <br />and that the petition would be forwarded to the State Highway Commission. <br />The following road petitions were presented and the Clerk was requested to forward them <br />to the State Highway Commission in Greensboro. <br />1. Road runs off of Orange Grove Road beyond Cary Sykes Road. <br />2. Andrews Road <br />3. Belle Vue Avenue located in Hillsboro Township. <br />4. State Road //1304. <br />The Board discussed with the Sheriff the request made by Rainey Roberts. The Sheriff expressed <br />that he would like for all the deputies to be raised but since the Board had declined his budget <br />request then he felt that the salary situation was now established for this year. <br />There being no further buaLness this meeting was adjourned. <br />R.
