189 <br />Mr. Carr then briefly went over with the Board of Commissioner their propsed budget for <br />1960-1961. Each member of the Board of Education then made a few comments relative to the <br />purohnse of the S. T. Latta land. <br />Harry Breeze and Lucius Brown spoke briefly about the band at Hillsboro High School and <br />requested the Board of Commissioners to support the School Current Expense Enrichment program as <br />formulated by the County Board of Education. <br />Commissioner Stanford moved the Board of Commissioners approve the expenditure of $30,000.00 <br />for the uurchase of the 100 acres of land from 5, T. Latta. Commissioner McDade eave a second to <br />this motion and then after lengthy discussion ensued. Chairman Hobbs called for a vote on this <br />motion and there were 5 ayes and 0 nayes. Chairman Hobbs declared the motion passed. <br />A right of way petition from the State Highway Commission was presented to the Board for <br />their approval. This petition granted a right of way along County road 1100h beside the old County <br />Home Cemetery. The Board approved this petition and all members signed it and requested that the <br />petition be returned to the State Highway Commission. <br />The Accountant vies directed to arrange a meeting with the Chapel Hill City Administrative <br />Unit next week to discuss their budget request for the coming year. <br />There being no further business this meeting adjourned to meet again on Wednesday, July 20th, <br />at 8 p.m. in the Commissioners room. <br />R. C. <br />Members present: Chairman R. J. M. Hobbs, Commissioners Clarence Jones, Donald McDade, <br />Donald Stanford and Henry calker. <br />Members absent: None <br />Joseph Johnston, Supt. of the Chapel Hill City Administrative Unit, was present to discuss <br />with the Board his Unit's request for the fiscal year of 1960-1961. <br />This meeting, was adjourned at 10:30 o'clock p,m. with plans to meet again on Thursday, <br />July 21st, at 8 o'clock p.m. <br />R. P[, Gattis <br />Acting Clerk <br />Minutes of the Board of Commissioners <br />July 21, 1960 <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in adjourned session on Thursday, July 21, 1960, <br />at 8 o'clock p.m. in the Commissioners' room at the courthouse in Hillsboro, N. C. <br />Members present: Chairman R. J. F:. Hobbs, Commissioners Clarence Jones, Donald McDade, <br />Donald Stanford and Henry Walker. <br />Members absent: None <br />Three members of the Commissioners' School Advisory Committee, there were, Donald Heyman, <br />Harry Breeze and Alex Heard. These members were present to discuss and present their report <br />to the Board, Mr. Heyman and the other two committee members presented comments on said report. <br />A question and answer session then arose with particular attention being paid the recommended <br />building program and hot it was developed. The question of school abandonment was also discussed. <br />At the conclusion of the report Chairman Hobbs expressed to the committee the appreciation <br />of the Board for the excellent service rendered by them. <br />This meeting was adjourned to meet again on Monday, July 25th, at 9:30 o'clock a.m. <br />R.
