VIA <br />Minutes of the Hoard of Commissioners <br />June 8, 1960 <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in adjourned session on Wednesday, June 8, 1960, <br />at 8 o'clock p.m, in the Commissioners room at the courthouse in Hillsbwoq N. C, <br />Members present: Chairman R. J, M. Hobbs, Commissioners Clarence Jones, Donald McDade, <br />Donald Stanford and Henry Balker. <br />Members absent: None <br />Joseph M. Johnston, Sept. of the Chapel Hill City School Unit, presented on behalf of the <br />Chanel Hill District Board of Education that units budget for the 1960-1961 fiscal year. <br />A lengthy discussion of the various items of the budget then ensued. <br />Representatives of the District P.T.A. Council and the Chapel Hill School Advisory Committee <br />spoke briefly lending their support to the budget as presented by Mr'. Johnston. <br />There being no further business the meeting ram adjourned to meet again on Thursday, June <br />18th, far further budget sessions. <br />R. J. u. Hobbs <br />Chairman <br />S. L. Oattis <br />Acting Cleric <br />Minutes of the Bond of Commissioners <br />June 18, 1960 <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in adjourned session an Thursday, June 18, 1960, <br />at 8 o'clock p.m. in the Commissioners room at the courthouse in Hillsboro, 11. C, <br />Members present: Chairman R. J, M. Hobbs, Commissioners Clarence Jones, Donald McDade, <br />Donald Stanford and Henry Balker. <br />Members absent: None <br />Remus Smith, Sr., Chairman of the County A.B.C. Board, informed the Board that his Board nas <br />willing to buy a new base station and five (5) radios in the cars of the County lar enforcement <br />agencies. <br />After a discussion of the details of this project Commissioners Jones moved that the County <br />accent the offer made by the A.B.O. Board. Corumissioner Tialker seconded this motion. Chairman <br />Hobbs called for a vote. There were 4 ayes and 0 nayes. Chairman Hobbs then declared the motion <br />passed. <br />Chairman Hobbs expressed to Mr. Smith the appreciation of the Board for the gift made <br />by the A.B.C. Pond. <br />The Commissioners then turned its attention to the discussion of the budgets' submitted <br />by the various Department Official such as the Sherriff, Clerk of Court, Register of Deeds, County Acco tant <br />Dog "iarden, Tax Supervisor and Tax Collector. <br />The Commissioners directed the Clerk of Superior and Recorders Court, the Register of Deeds and <br />the Sherriff to make a survey of fees charged in the adjoining counties and counties similar in <br />size to Orange and submit a report to the Hoard as to their findings. <br />Harvey Bennett, Democratic nominee for County Cocmdssioner, was present at this meeting. <br />Chairman Hobbs expressed the Boards pleasure in having Mr. Pennatt present and invited him <br />to join the Commissioners for all future sessions. <br />There being no further business the meeting visa adjourned to meet again on Tuesday, June <br />28th, at 8 o'clock p.m. to continue their budget sessions. <br />R.
