Minutes of the Board of Commissioners <br />June 4, 1960 <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, June 4, 1960, at <br />ten o'clock a.m. in the Commissioners room at the courthouse in Hillsboro, et. C. <br />Members present: Chairman R. J. g. Hobbs, Commissioners C. D. Jones, Henry S. Walker, <br />Donald Stanford and Donald McDade. <br />Members absent: (tone <br />The acting Cleric read the minutes of the three meetings held in Lay and same were approved. <br />A delegation of leaders from the farming communities of the county headed b, William G. <br />Dorsett presented a request that the Board include in their 1960-1961 budget funds a aura <br />adequate to build an addition to the present County agriculture building. This delegations <br />brought to the attention of the Board the matter of the crowded conditions presently found in the <br />agricultural building and also pointed out the lack of centralization of the various agencies <br />dealin,: with the agricultural problems in the county. <br />Dr. 0. David Carving District Health Officer, appeared before the Board and informed them <br />that a federal grant of 59,880.00 that had been previously allotted to his department since 1947 <br />had now been withdrawn. Dr. Garvin was granted permission to amend his budgetary request of <br />530,000.00 on the first s.onday in July if this becomes necessary. <br />Dr. Garvin also mentioned the need for a county vide plumbing inspection system and asked <br />the Board to take this request under consideration. <br />Ross Taylor of (rest Hillsboro came before the Board to request help in securing the paving <br />of Plant Hill Avenue by the State Highway Commission. Chairman Hobbs advised Mr. Taylor to <br />'submit a road petition to the Board and they in turn would approved the petition and mail same <br />to the District Highway Office. <br />Ube following depart:ent officials presented reports for the month of May, 1960: <br />Cache Boggs, County Dog Uarden <br />Frank Frederick, Delinquent Tax Collector <br />E. M. Lynch, Clerk of Court <br />Jane C. Parker, Welfare Supt. <br />Bonnie B. David, Negro Home Demonstration A,;ent and <br />Jessie 1YOwbridge, Home Demonstration Agent <br />Chairman Hobbs requested the Clerk of Court to make an investigation in the surrounding <br />counties and learn what situation prevailed there in regard to uncollected court fines. <br />The following names were suggested as members of the County Planning Board. <br />Mrs. B. B. Forrest <br />Parker Roland <br />Raymond Andrews <br />Henry Hogan <br />John Efland <br />William Dorsett <br />Mrs. Clyde Walker <br />Bob Strayhorn <br />Ira Gard <br />Wiley Perry <br />Yrs. J. D. Griffin <br />Mrs. Quenton Patterson <br />Bob Murray <br />Mrs. Era Kirkland <br />From the names suggested the following seven (7) were selected as members of the <br />County Planning Board. <br />Parker Roland <br />Mrs. B. B. Forrest <br />Raymond Andrews <br />John Efland <br />Bob Strayhorn <br />Y'rs. J. D. Griffin <br />Tuley Perry <br />The members named were to be contacted and if they declined to serve on the Planning <br />Board, it us understood, that their replacements would cone from the listed of suggested names. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board of Commissioners this Board adjourned <br />and immediately reconvened ?s a Board of !?qualization and Review. <br />There being no business to come before the Board of Equalization and Review this meeting was <br />adjourned. <br />R.
