Minutes of the Board of Commissioners 1'( 1 <br />March 7, 1960 <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, March 7, 1960, <br />at ten o'clock a.m. in the Commissioners' room at the courthouse in Hillsboro, N. C. <br />Members present: Chairman R, J. U. Hobbs, Co,missioners Clarence Jones, Donald McDade, <br />Donald Stanford and Henry Walker. <br />Members absent.: None <br />The minutes of the February 1st meeting were read by the Clerk and approved by the Board <br />after a few corrections were made. <br />The followin, road petitions were presented and the Clerk was requested to forward sage to <br />the State Highway Commission. <br />Curtis Road and 250 feet of the Clayton Road located in Coker Hills in Chapel Hill Township. <br />Road located in Hillsboro Township, Fairview section, runs from Highway n70 entrance at G E G <br />Grocery around in a loop back to Highway 670 this section of the loop is known as Terrell Road. <br />Road located in Chanel Hill . Township runs from present Windsor Circle and is an extension <br />of said Windsor Circle. <br />The following Department Officials presented reports for the month of February, 1960: <br />Frank Frederick, Delinquent Tax Collector <br />E. M. Lynch, Clerk of Court <br />Jane Parker, Supt. of Welfare <br />Evelyn Raper, Asst Home Demonstration Agent <br />C. D. Knight, Sherriff. <br />Joe Augustine representative of the Chapel Rill Civil Air Patrol Unit, requested that a confiscate <br />truck be assigned to the C.A.P. to be used in connection with a Rescue Squad which is now being <br />formed by the C.A.P. in the Chapel Hill area. This matter visa taken under advisement as the <br />Board needed a ruling as to whether they could assim a truck taken by the law enforcement agency <br />ever to any organization. <br />Walter Wrenn, Director of the Orange County Civil Defense, presented Cliff Blalock, State <br />Communications Officer for Civil Defense, from Raleigh, N. C., and A. V. ;gasket, Orange County's <br />Radio Officer for Civil Defense, to the Board. These rpresentatives requested that the Board match <br />funds with those avai.laule from the federal government, in order, that the Orange County Civil <br />Defense Unit may purchase equipment for the use of the "ham radio operatorsm which is known as <br />RACES (Radio Ammuteur Civil Emergency Service). This equipment would be used in times of disaster <br />whether from the natural elements or outside forces. They stressed the need for money to impliment <br />a Radio Civil Defense Plan which would consist of mobile radio units to be place at the disposal of <br />the volunteer rain operators in the County. The Board ouggested to these representatives that an <br />itemized statement of equipment needed and the cost involved for the purchase of said equipment <br />be presented to them, in order, that samey may be considered in the 1960-61 budget. <br />Alton Riley, representative for the Yhite Cross School Heger Committee, requested that the <br />Board call a special election in the White Cross School District. The following resolutions were <br />presented from the Chapel Hill City Administrative Unit and the Orange County Board of Education <br />Hillsboro, N. C. <br />February 22, 1960 <br />RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE BOARD OF COAMISSIONERS OF ORANGE COUNTY TO CALL AN ELECTION IN THE SMITE <br />CROSS DISTRICT TO DETE.R!.'INE 1'WTHE.R OR NOT THIS DISTRICT SHALL BECOME A PART OF THE CHAPEL HILL <br />CITY ADMINISTRATTIE UNIT <br />BE IT RESOLVED: <br />Section I, That the Board of Commissioners of Orange County be requested to call an election in the <br />White Cross District to determine the will of the people on the issue of whether or not this <br />district shall become a part of the Chapel Hill City Administrative Unit. <br />Section II, That the district in which the election shall be held shall be comaosed of the <br />following area: <br />Beginiin;, at a concrete monument on the Orange and Alamance County line which point is established by <br />a line running due west 212 feet from the intersection of the center line of the Mebane Oaks Highway <br />and the County road that leads to Oak Grove Baptist Church, running thence south 35* 35, east 6,184 <br />feet crossing aforesaid Mebane Oaks Highway to the intersection of the center line of the county <br />road that leads westwardly from Teen to said N,ebane Oaks Highway and the county road that leads to <br />the Orange Grove Highway; thence south 83* 50w east 15,470 feet to the intersection of the center <br />line of the Orange Grove Highway and the county road that leads eastwardly from Tear to said <br />Orange Drove Highway; thence north 74a 101 east 8,870 feet to the intersection of the center line of <br />the road at Dodson's Crossroads; thence north 69* 15' east 8,915 feet to a point in the center of <br />the west side of the loop road, said point being 1,584 feet north of the first intersection going <br />east from Dodson's Crossroads; thence along the center of said road in a southwesterly direction <br />1,584 feet to the intersection of said road (N. C. secondary road #'512) with the paved road that <br />leads from Dodson's Crossroads southeastwardly to Calvander (N. C. secondary #511); thence due south <br />along the Bingham and Chapgel Hill Township line crossing N. C. secondary road N56 at Bethel Church, <br />crossing H. C. higinay v54 just at of rates Store, crossing Antioch Road at its intersection with <br />N. C. secondary road ,-5163, and corssing Jones Ferry Road 1.25 miles northeasterly from its inter- <br />section with the Orange and Chatham County line, a total distance of 39,177 feet to a point on said <br />Orange and Chatham County line; thence in a westerly direction Slam, the Chatham County line to the <br />Alamance County line; thence in a northerly direction along the Alamuance County line to the point <br />or place of beginning.
