1 <br /> <br />APPROVED 6/5/2018 <br /> MINUTES <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />May 15, 2018 <br />7:00 p.m. <br /> <br /> <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 <br />at 7 p.m. at the Southern Human Services Center in Chapel Hill, N.C. <br /> <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Commissioners Mia Burroughs, Barry Jacobs, Earl <br />McKee, Mark Marcoplos, Renee Price and Penny Rich <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Chair Dorosin <br />COUNTY ATTORNEYS PRESENT: John Roberts <br />COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager Bonnie Hammersley, Deputy County Manager <br />Travis Myren and Clerk to the Board Donna Baker (All other staff members will be identified <br />appropriately below) <br /> <br />Vice Chair Rich called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m., and said she will preside over <br />the meeting tonight as Chair Dorosin is unable to attend, due to an out of town work conflict. <br /> <br />1. Additions or Changes to the Agenda <br /> <br />NOTE: For this meeting only, the Manager is proposing that the Board address Section 8 <br />– Consent Agenda and Section 11 – Appointments prior to discussion of Section 5 – <br />Public Hearings due to Section 5’s expected length of discussion. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Jacobs, seconded by Commissioner Burroughs to <br />approve for the Board to address Section 8 – Consent Agenda and Section 11 – Appointments <br />prior to discussion of Section 5 – Public Hearings due to Section 5’s expected length of <br />discussion. <br /> <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> <br /> Commissioner Rich noted the following items at the Commissioners’ places: <br />- Yellow sheet: revised abstract for Item 11b <br /> <br />PUBLIC CHARGE <br /> Commissioner Rich reviewed the public charge. <br /> <br />Katie Murray, Arts Commission Director, introduced the Arts Moment. <br />Arts Moment - Celisa Steele – Ms. Steele lives in Carrboro, North Carolina, where she served <br />as the town’s poet laureate from 2013 to 2016. As a member of Carrboro Poets Council, she's <br />helped plan for the past six years Carrboro's free, multi-day, multi-venue West End Poetry <br />Festival, which takes place each October. Her poetry has appeared in Poetry South, Tar River <br />Poetry, The Comstock Review, San Pedro River Review, and other publications.
