1 <br /> <br />APPROVED 5/1/2018 MINUTES <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />April 17, 2018 <br />7:00 p.m. <br /> <br /> <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 <br />at 7 p.m. at the Southern Human Services Center in Chapel Hill, N.C. <br /> <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Dorosin and Commissioners Mia Burroughs, <br />Barry Jacobs, Earl McKee, Mark Marcoplos, Renee Price and Penny Rich <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None <br />COUNTY ATTORNEYS PRESENT: John Roberts <br />COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager Bonnie Hammersley, Deputy County Manager <br />Travis Myren and Clerk to the Board Donna Baker (All other staff members will be identified <br />appropriately below) <br /> <br /> Chair Dorosin called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m. <br /> <br />1. Additions or Changes to the Agenda <br />Chair Dorosin said people have signed up to speak on item 8-d, and he suggested <br />moving this item to after 4-a. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Commissioner McKee, seconded by Commissioner Price to <br />move item 8-d to after 4-a. <br /> <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> <br />PUBLIC CHARGE <br />Chair Dorosin dispensed with the public charge. <br /> <br />Arts Moment <br />Tom Hoke, Arts Commission Chair, introduced the Arts Moment: <br />The 2016-18 Hillsborough Poet Laureate William Davis, who goes by the performance name <br />“Endlesswill", is a spoken word artist dedicated to continuing the tradition of poetry in living <br />form. His most recent poetry collection, Broken Perception, is largely autobiographical, <br />exploring the themes of utilizing lessons of the past to positively shape one’s future and the <br />complexities of the human condition. The first twenty-five poems in the book can be found in <br />audio form on a CD also titled Broken Perception. <br /> <br />William Davis is originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan. He studied world history, and early <br />childhood education at Ferris State University. He is a father of five wonderful, artistic, and <br />sports involved children. He and his partner Catherine Stanley enjoy planning writing activities, <br />family book clubs, and riding bikes together. <br /> <br />William Davis read two of his poems. <br /> <br />2.
