1 <br /> <br />APPROVED 3/8/2018 <br /> MINUTES <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />February 20, 2018 <br />7:00 p.m. <br /> <br /> <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, February 20, <br />2018 at 7p.m. at the Southern Human Services Center in Chapel Hill, N.C. <br /> <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Dorosin and Commissioners Mia Burroughs, <br />Barry Jacobs, Earl McKee, Mark Marcoplos, Renee Price and Penny Rich <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None <br />COUNTY ATTORNEYS PRESENT: John Roberts <br />COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager Bonnie Hammersley, Deputy County Manager <br />Travis Myren and Clerk to the Board Donna Baker (All other staff members will be identified <br />appropriately below) <br /> <br /> Chair Dorosin called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. <br /> <br />1. Additions or Changes to the Agenda <br />Chair Dorosin noted the following items at the Commissioners’ places: <br /> <br />- PowerPoint for Item 6-a, <br />- PowerPoint for Item 4-b <br />- Yellow sheet: Handout for 7b <br /> <br />PUBLIC CHARGE <br />Chair Dorosin dispensed with the reading of the public charge. <br /> <br />Arts Moment - Aaron Belz <br />Aaron Belz’s poetry has been published in American journals such as Fence, Boston <br />Review, Eleven Eleven, and Zócalo Public Square, and internationally in publications such as <br />Van Gogh’s Ear, Jacket, and Tears in the Fence. He has given readings in numerous venues <br />ranging from literary salons and bookstores and university classrooms to improve workshops, <br />literary festivals, and comedy festivals. Mr. Belz has released three full-length books, The Bird <br />Hoverer (2007), Lovely, Raspberry (2010) and Glitter Bomb (2014) and has one forthcoming: <br />Soft Launch (2019, Persea Books). Aaron lives in Hillsborough, N.C. The late John Ashbery <br />remarked, "Aaron Belz's poetry reminds us that poetry should be bright, friendly, surprising, <br />and totally committed to everything but itself. Reading him is like dreaming of a summer <br />vacation – and then taking it." <br />Aaron Belz read two poems. <br /> <br />2. Public Comments <br /> <br />a. Matters not on the Printed Agenda <br />Chair Dorosin said Ellie Kinnaird wished to speak to an item on the consent <br />agenda, and asked the BOCC if it would be acceptable to allow her to speak at this time.
