The County has contracted directly <br />with Carrboro since assuming management of the Animal Shelter operation from APS <br />approximately two years ago, Previously, the town had contracted with APS far these services, <br />BACKGROUND: The attached contract has been developed by Animal Services and reviewed <br />in coordination and consultation with Budget and the Town of Carrboro. It provides for the <br />continuation of emergency animal rescue services to the Town, .)uly 1, 2006 through ,)une 30, <br />2007, The projected costs for emergency animal rescue services within municipal bounds are <br />shared proportionally by Chapel Hill and Carrboro, There is no change in the level of service <br />and no increase in cost to Carrboro under current terms and conditions. <br />Under this contract, EARS workers respond to animal injuries, animal cn~elty, animal rescue, <br />animals in need of assistance, rabies suspects, and all other emergency calls in the Tawn limits <br />of Carrboro after regular hours of service (that is, from 6:00 p.m, to 9;00 a,m,), Monday through <br />Friday, and 24 hours on Saturday and Sunday and Holidays. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: The contract renewal will provide revenue to the County in the amount of <br />$6,000 for FY 2006m2007. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board authorize the Chair to <br />sign the contract renewal with the Town of Carrboro for Emergency Animal Rescue Services in <br />the amount of $6,000 pending final review by staff and the County Attorney, <br />
