1 <br /> APPROVED 6/20/2017 <br /> MINUTES <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> REGULAR MEETING <br /> May 16, 2017 <br /> 7:00 p.m. <br /> The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, May 16, <br /> 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the Southern Human Services Center in Chapel Hill, N.C. <br /> COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Dorosin and Commissioners Mia Burroughs, <br /> Mark Dorosin, Barry Jacobs, Earl McKee, Mark Marcoplos, Renee Price and Penny Rich <br /> COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: <br /> COUNTY ATTORNEYS PRESENT: John Roberts <br /> COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager Bonnie Hammersley, Deputy County Manager <br /> Travis Myren and Clerk to the Board Donna Baker (All other staff members will be identified <br /> appropriately below) <br /> Chair Dorosin called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. <br /> 1. Additions or Changes to the Agenda <br /> Chair Dorosin noted the following items at the Commissioners' places: <br /> - PowerPoint for Item 4-b <br /> - PowerPoint and Master Aging Plan (MAP) presentation for Item 4-d <br /> - Veterans Memorial information <br /> - Southern Neighbor information <br /> - Information for Item 6-a <br /> PUBLIC CHARGE <br /> Chair Dorosin dispensed with the reading of the public charge. <br /> 2. Public Comments <br /> a. Matters not on the Printed Agenda <br /> James Merritt said he is the co-chair of the Veterans Memorial group. He said the <br /> groundbreaking will be held on May 29th at 3:00 p.m. at Southern Human Services Center, and <br /> welcomed all to attend. <br /> Barbara Elder said she is speaking on behalf of NAMI-Orange, Faith Connections on <br /> Mental Illness, and Mental Health Community Connections, all of which serve children and <br /> families suffering with mental illness. She said May is National Children's Mental Health <br /> month, and noted that many schools are promoting awareness of the issue. She gave a more <br /> detailed description of the services offered by Mental Health Community Connections. She <br /> thanked the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) for its efforts on behalf of mental health <br /> needs. <br /> b. Matters on the Printed Agenda <br />
