MINUTES <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> MARCH 19, 1979 <br /> The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in special session on <br /> Monday, March 19, 1979, at 7:30 p.m., in the auditorium of the Grey <br /> Culbreth Junior High School , in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. <br /> Commissioners present: Mr. Richard Whitted, Chairman, and <br /> Commissioners Anne Barnes, Don Willhoit and Norman Walker. <br /> Commissionersyabsent: Commissioner Norman Gustaveson. <br /> Other officials present: Chatham County Commissioners <br /> Mr. Gus Murchison, Mr. Henry Dunlap, Mr. C. W. Lutterloh, Mr. Carl Thompson, <br /> and Mr. Earl Thompson, Chairman; Mr. Robert Drakeford, Mayor of Carrboro; <br /> Mr. Ernie Patterson, Carrboro Alderman; Mr. Braxton Foushee, Carrboro <br /> 4 <br /> Alderman; Mr. James C. Wallace, Mayor of Chapel Hill; .Mr. Ed Vickery, <br /> Chapel Hill Alderman; Mr. Tom Bradshaw, Secretary of the Department of <br /> Transportation; Mr. Billy Rose, Highway Administrator of the Department <br /> of Transportation; and Mr. Bill Caddell, Chief of Planning of the Department <br /> of Transportation. <br /> The purpose of the meeting was to allow members of the Orange <br /> County, Chatham County, Chapel Hill and Carrboro Boards, and officials <br /> of the University of North Carolina and interested citizens to ask <br /> the Secretary and other officials of the Department of Transportation <br /> questions concerning the proposed Southern Bypass. <br /> Mr. Bradshaw gave a brief history of the events that had taken place <br /> concerning the proposed bypass. <br /> The Chairman of the Board of Commissioners then opened the floor <br /> to questions by members of the various boards and then to members of the <br /> audience. <br /> Mr. Bradshaw announced the public would have an opportunity to <br /> attend a public meeting held by the Department of Transportation on <br /> Tuesday, June 5, 1979, at 2:00, at the Bartley-Yancey High School, in <br /> Yanceyville. <br /> The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 p.m. <br /> Richard E.
