M., in the Courtroom of the County Courthouse, on lYedneaday, <br />January 21, 19$3• <br />ldembera present: Chairman R. 0. Forrea t; Him L. Eflend and R. J. fit. <br />Hobbs. Corrmiesionars. <br />This meeting was held for the purpose of having a hearing to consider <br />the revocation of the 1952-1953 Beer License issued to Brodie Powell, who <br />operetee a piece of business on Church Street Eztena ion, near the Town of <br />Chapel Hill. <br />A. A. Graham, County Attorney, conducted the hearing for the County Com- <br />missioners, and J. R. Parlour eppearad for Brodie Powell. <br />Sergeant Coy E. Durham of the Chanel Rill Police Depertmant; Deputy <br />Sheriffs Albert Pendergrass and Frank }"eddry; J. E. Crabtree, State Inspector <br />with the 31a1t Beverage Division; 1,?ildred Aoleman and Connie Bynum appeared as <br />witnesses in the hearing. <br />After listening to all the evidence, the Board advised that it would <br />reserve its fudgment in the matter until its next regular meeting on Fabruery <br />A delegation of eighteen members appeared and presented a petition rela- <br />tive to legislation pertaining to increasing the membership of the Board of <br />County Commissioners to five. Sohn Hawkins, spokesman for the delegation, <br />stated that approximately 930 people had signod the oetition. The pet itlon <br />was worded as follows: <br />°19a the undersigned petition the Orange County Hoard of Commissioners to <br />euthori za our representative, John W. Umstead, to present a bill to the General <br />Assembly for legislation. <br />"To increase our present three member Board of Commi asioners and Board <br />or Education to a Five member Hoard. No two members on either board shall <br />come from the same township. The county commi asioners will be elected by <br />maforitg vote of the entire county. Their term of office shall be Tour <br />years on a 2-3 rotation basis every two years, thereby giving the county <br />experlemced members oa the board at all times. No commissi onar can succeed <br />himself Sn office for more than one term without missing a term." <br />This meeting was adfourned, to meat again an January 27, 1953, at 7:30 <br />o'clock P. fif ., at the County Courthouse. <br />R. 0.
