WAS/M(6- )\6 <br /> A RESOLUTION ENDORSING IN CONCEPT THE NEED FOR INTERGOVERNMENTAL <br /> COOPERATION FOR CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW SCHOOL AND PARKS <br /> AND RECREATION FACILITIES SOUTH OF CHAPEL HILL <br /> WHEREAS, the Southern Village development and nearby existing <br /> neighborhoods will provide a cluster of population in the area <br /> south of the present Town limits as planned in the Southern Small <br /> Area Plan as adopted by the Town Council; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Town of Chapel Hill owns about 80 acres which were <br /> acquired in the 1980s for a future Southern Community Park near <br /> Dogwood Acres and the now-planned Southern Village; and <br /> WHEREAS, the town Council has an interest in transportation, parks <br /> and recreation, resource conservation and other matters related to <br /> construction of a future school and public parks and recreation <br /> facilities south of the present Town limits; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Board of Education for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City <br /> Schools, the Orange County Board of Commissioners and the Town <br /> Council have the opportunity now for timely cooperation among the <br /> localities and with the Southern Village developer to address <br /> objectives of each party; <br /> NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Orange County Board of <br /> Commissioners hereby: <br /> 1. Endorses the concept of intergovernmental cooperation for <br /> construction of a new elementary school and public park and <br /> recreation facilities in the Southern Village/Southern Community <br /> Park area; and <br /> 2 . Designates Moses Carey, Jr. and Alice M. Gordon to <br /> participate in discussions with other local government <br /> representatives and with the e developer of the Southern Village <br /> g <br /> regarding intergovernmental cooperation for construction of a new <br /> elementary school and public park and recreation facilities in the <br /> Southern Village/Southern Community Park Area; and <br /> 3 .
