~~t~ <br />htlnutes of the Board of Commisioners <br />idondey, July 2, 1951 <br />The Board o£ County Commissioners for the County of Orange, met in regular <br />session on ?:ionday July 2, 1951, et 10 o'clock A. 1.4., Sn the Commi asioners' Rooi <br />at the Courthouse. <br />Present: Collier Cobb, Jr., Cha lrman, Sim L. Efland end R. 0. Forrest, <br />Commissioners. <br />The minutes of the June meetings vrere read end approved. <br />The following road petitions vrere presented: <br />Petition calling for widening and oaving a road running from the Ervin Road <br />to Blackwood Station, length of road 5 1/2 miles. <br />Petition to..teke over and maintain a road in Little Hiver Tovmship, running <br />from the Hunt Road to Tom Woods, knovm as the Henry Carden Roed, length of road <br />2,760 feet. <br />Road in Cheeks Township, running from Oasis Service Station to Northeast, <br />by way of Old Road for ¢dis tance of .50 miles. <br />Road in Eno Township, running from P¢lmer's Grove to L. I. Yates Home, <br />length of road 1/1} miles. <br />Road in Chanel Hill Tormship, running from Highway 15A-501 to HIt. Carmel <br />Rosd end knovih as Pittsboro RAad, length of road 1/2 mile. <br />Ido action ores taken on any of the above petitions, pending en investigation <br />by the Board. <br />Li. C. Burt, Negro Ferm Agent appeared and reported that the negro toilet <br />facilities vrere not usable end asked that something be done to remedy the <br />s itueti on. <br />Tha Board instructed hir. Ira A. Ciard, County Accountant to have the colored <br />toilets restored to a usable condition. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Efland, seconded by Commissioner Forrest it was <br />ordered that a bill of $18.60 presented by George D. Atkinson, Sr. for 30 21b. <br />chickens (tilled by dogs in 1950 and 58 L vre eks old chi clcens killed in 1951 be <br />disallowafi due to the fact that h1r. Atlc3.nson did not list chickens for the year: <br />1950 or 1951. <br />Uoon motion of Commissioner Efland, seconded by Commissioner Forrest it was <br />ordered that Carrie Harwood Hrovm be paid ?~iv6.00 per month as aid to blind. <br />Ylhereas, it is necessary end proper that flsod salaries, princ~pel and <br />interest of indebtedness, stated compensation of officers and employees, end <br />usual ordinary expenses of the county and its subdivisions may be promptly <br />paid. <br />Norv, therefore, upon motion of Commissioner Forrest, duly seconded by Commi: <br />si oner Efland, it is hereby ordered that the following interim appropriations <br />be made: <br />To the General Fund ;?3,000.00 <br />To Public Pfelfare Fund 30,000.00 <br />To Salary Fund 6,GDD.DD <br />To Courts and Jail 800.00 <br />Ta School Fund 17,000.00 <br />To Recorder's Court Fund 700000 <br />The County Accountant is authorized and directed to Pay current ordinary <br />ezpenses against the funds above listed not exceeding the emounta of the <br />appropriations hereby made. Said appropriations made by this resolution shall <br />be chargeable to the several annropria tions reape ctively hereafter made in the <br />annual appropriations resolution and adoption of annual budget for the year <br />1951-1952, vrhi ch will be done at the regular August meeting of the Board. <br />Bids were considered on the structural steel for the new proposed Court- <br />house. Carolina Steel and Iron Company of Greensboro, N. C. wore considered <br />the low bidders with proposals es follows: 123 tons of structural steel del.ivex <br />by truck, 22,000 square feet of mesh reinforcing delivered by truck, 5 1/2 ton; <br />of reinforcing bars delivered by truck, 30 tons of bar foist, freight allowed <br />to Hillsboro, 1800 lathe clips. <br />~~ <br />C ONTTNUED <br />
