<br /> The Board of Commissioners for -the County of Orange, North Carolina, met in �
<br /> �i regular session at the County Courthouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina, at 10 �S
<br /> aj o'clock A.M., on Tuesday, July.5, 1966, Monday, July 4, 1966 having' been a legal g
<br /> holiday.
<br /> Present: Chairman Harvey D. Bennett, and Commissioners Henry S. Walker, Gordonli
<br /> {� B. Cleveland, Carl M. Smith and William C. Ray E3,
<br /> ' Absent: None
<br /> The Board authorized the Clerk to dispense with the reading of the minutes of
<br /> } the June meetings as copies of said minutes had been mailed and received by all the if
<br /> Board members.
<br /> A. H. Graham, County Attorney, presented the two following certified copies of �
<br /> a resolution from the Board of Commissioners of the Town of Carrboro and from the 3.
<br /> !I Board of Alderman of the Town of Chapel Hill.
<br /> "A special meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Town of Carrboro, Northj!
<br /> Carolina, was held in the Town Hall, the usual place of meeting, at 7:30 o'clock,
<br /> 1 P.M., June 28, 1966.
<br /> J; Present: Mayor C. T. Ellington, presiding, and Commissioners Bryant Hackney,
<br /> i1 A. B. Poole, Ralph Morgan, M. E. Lanning, Hughes Lloyd and Harold Dark.

<br /> RESOLUTION RELATING TO THE CREATION1
<br /> OF A RECREATION DISTRICT
<br /> v
<br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of the Town of Carrboro: !
<br /> 6 Section 1. The Board of Commissioners has determined and does hereby find and i
<br /> f declare:
<br /> (a) That, pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 1107, Session Laws of 1965, a ;
<br /> ' copy of a petition, addressed to the Board of Commissioners of Orange County, has
<br /> :! been received by this Board in the following form:
<br /> "PETITION
<br /> TO: THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF ORANGE COUNTY
<br /> WE, THE UNDERSIGNED resident freeholders all residing with the recreation
<br /> district herein petitioned for, do hereby request the Board of County Commissioners
<br /> of Orange County to exercise the authority granted to it by the 1965 General
<br /> !' Assembly (Chapter 1107, 1965 Session Laws) with the following action:
<br /> (1) The creation of a recreation district coterminous with the present j
<br /> boundaries of the Chapel Hill School District, which district is more
<br /> i particularly described in Attachment A hereto, the object proposed to be
<br /> accomplished by the creation of such district being the providing of
<br /> public recreation facilities in order to preserve and promote the public
<br /> ii good and general welfare, and
<br /> (2) The calling of a special election within said district for the purpose of j
<br /> voting upon: i
<br /> (a) the issuance of Recreation Facilities Bonds in the amount of
<br /> j $400,000.00 for the purpose of providing funds, with any other
<br /> available funds, for acquiring, improving and equipping lands and
<br /> buildings for parks, playgrounds, recreation centers and other
<br /> recreational facilities, and a tax for the payment of the principal !<
<br /> of and the interest on such bonds, and ?,
<br /> (b) the levy of an annual tax of not less than three cents nor more than
<br /> 1? ten cents on each $100.00 of assessed valuation of the taxable
<br /> !! property within such district for the provision, establishment,
<br /> i
<br /> maintenance and operation of the recreational facilities, the amount 4
<br /> of said tax to be set by the Board of County Commissioners within saidi,
<br /> range.
