L13nutes of the Board of Commissioners <br /><3~a <br />Elonday, August 7, 1950 <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session, on i5onday, <br />August 7, 1950, at 10 o'clock A. tt., in the Commisei oners' Room at the Court- <br />house. tlembers present were Collier Cobb, Jr., Chairman> Ben F. }yil son end <br />H. G. Larrs, Commissioners. <br />The minutes of the July meetings were read and approved. <br />Glr. G. 0. Reitzel presented s road petition asking that the State Highway <br />& Public 1'lorks Commission tape over, rock, and maintain a rood in Hillsboro <br />Tovmship, running from a point in front of Pav1 Shslton's on Highway 70 and <br />intersecting erith Highway 70, a distance of 1/10 of a mile. <br />A road petition was presented asking that the State Highway and Public <br />47orks Cosmuasion take over and maintain e road in Chapel Hil]. Toraship, running <br />from the Airport Road, Northwest, and knocm es the Old Ridge Roed. Length of <br />road: 0.5 of a mile. <br />A road ne ti tion was presented asking that the State Highway and Public <br />a Commission taks over and maintain another road in Chapel Hill Township, <br />.ing from S1. C. Highway 54-Celvender Hoed to Hickory Grove Baptist Church, <br />Imovm as the Hickory Grove Baptist Church Road. Length of Hoed: 0.3 of e <br />No action was takon on any of the above petitions. <br />?,ir. R. 0. Dnniol of Cedar Grove Tocroshin, appeared to inquire about e road <br />petition that had been presented about e year ago calling for e road running bg <br />hie house. The Board informed Idr. Daniel that this ne ti ti on had not been ap- <br />proved but erould be investigated at a later date. <br />h1r. Don S. tiietheson, County Farm Agent, appeared end gave e brief report <br />on the farm conditions in the Cotmty. He stated that the tobacco crop eras good <br />poundage normal and that prices on the Eastern tSarltets erere good. He also ro- <br />ported that the nevr variety of black sham; resistant tobec co had nr oven very <br />aetisfactory) and that the surplus of mills had limited the es tabliahment of <br />Grsde A dari es. <br />11rs. Jean Lt. Hee r, Superintendent of Public Ylel fare, presented a copy of <br />a letter written to Bhoriff S. T. Latta and signed by the Board of Stelfare <br />asking that the Sheriff put forth a greater effort to locate end bring to trial <br />men who have deserted their families. The letter cited savor such cases in trhi c] <br />tho Ylelfere Board had spent e total of $8,621.05 in support of their femilio s. <br />h1rs. Neer requested that the Board of Commissioners go on record as approv• <br />ing this letter. The Board Sailed to concur with this request but promised to <br />talk with the Sheriff and the Judge of Recorder's Court with reference to this <br />met ter. <br />Upon motion, duly seconded, the follotting changes in Aid to Blind Grants <br />were unanimously approved: <br />Lsscille Diacklin and Jesse Pratt terminated duo to Clients' mov Sng <br />to Durham County. <br />Grant of Julia Pi Sher decreased from ~~30.00 per month to .$`10.00 per <br />month. <br />Benhronie E11 en Sykes increased irom x29.00 per month to ~~30.00 per <br />month <br />1+firsie Terrell increased from X19.00 oar month to $23.00 per month. <br />Cdilli¢m BenJemin Holt accepted for i?15.00 per month. <br />~~ <br />G1rs. Kathryn Hamrick, Home Demonstration Agent end L1iss Virginia Cathay, <br />Assistant Home Demonstration Agent> appeared and made a brief report on the <br />work being done through their organs zetion. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner 47i1 son, duly seconded by Cottmni ssioner Laws, <br />and unanimously passed that Inr. Archie Royal Davis,. Architect, be, and ha is <br />hereby authorized to prepare plans end specifications for heating the present <br />Courthouse, and advertise for bids on same. <br />Upon motion, duly seconded, it is hereby ordered that .Herein Phelps be <br />paid x15.00 for 25 young hens billed by doge. <br />Upon motion, duly seconded, it is hereby ordered that R. C. Daniel be paid <br />vu1.0.00 for two turkey hens killed by dogs. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Lavrs, seconded by Commissioner ~7il son, that <br />A. L. Stainbaclt, Principal of Hillsboro Colored High School, be permitted to <br />remove the Comoosi ti on Ceiling, Celo tax and pine ceiling from the inside wells <br />and overhead from the office formerly used by the Board of Education, to be <br />used in the Colored Public Library Building located on the Colored High School <br />property. <br />
