322 Minutes of the Board of Commissioners
<br />Monday, October 17, 1949
<br />The Board of Commissioners for the County of Orange, North Carolina, met
<br />in adjourned regular session on October 17, 1949, at 10 o'clock, A.M., at the
<br />Courthouse in Hillsboro, North Carolina, the usual place of meeting.
<br />Present: Chairman Collier Cobb, Jr. and Commissioners Ben F. Wilson and
<br />H. G. Laws.
<br />Absent: None
<br />The Chairman announced that this was the hour and date fixed by the Board
<br />for the public hearing upon the orders entitled:
<br />"ORDER AUTHORIZING 51,000 000
<br />SCHOOL BUILDING BONNDSA
<br />and
<br />"ORDER AUTHORIZING 5250,000
<br />COURTHOUSE BONDS ",
<br />and that the Board would immediately hear any and all citizens and taxpayers
<br />who might desire to protest against the issuance of said bonds.
<br />No citizen or taxnayer of the County appeared, either in person or by at-
<br />torney, to protest against the issuance of any of said bonds, and the clerk
<br />announced that no protest in writing, signed by any citizen or taxpayer, had
<br />been "nresented.
<br />Thereupon Commissioner Laws, introduced the following resolution which was
<br />read:
<br />WHEREAS, on October 3, 1949, this Board passed on first reading an order
<br />introduced on said date authorizing $1,000,000 School Building Bonds of Orange
<br />County, and an order introduced on said date authorizing $250,000 Courthouse
<br />Bonds of said County; and
<br />'BHEREAS, on said date this Board directed the clerk to publish each of sai
<br />orders, together with the annended note as required by The County Finance Act,
<br />as amended, in The News of Orange County not later than October 7, 1949; and
<br />WHEREAS, each of said orders, together with the apppended note, was publish
<br />ad by the clerk in The Orange County Times on October b, 1949, and such publi-
<br />cation complies with the requirements of The County Finance Act, as amended;
<br />now, therefore,
<br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners for the County of Orange that
<br />the publication by the clerk in The Orange County Times on October 6, 1949, of
<br />each of the two orders described in the preambles of this resolution, together
<br />with the annended note as required by The County Finance Act, as amended, is
<br />hereby ratified and confirmed, such publication complying with the requirements
<br />of The County Finance Act, as amended.
<br />Thereupon, upon motion of Commissioner Laws, seconded by Commissioner
<br />Nilson the foregoing resolution was passed by the following vote:
<br />Ayes: Commissioners Laws, Wilson and Cobb
<br />Noes: None.
<br />Thereunon, uoon motion of Commissioner Laws, seconded by Commissioner
<br />Wilson and carried, the order introduced and passed on first reading on October
<br />3, 1949, entitled: "ORDER AUTHORIZING $1,000,000 SCHOOL BUILDING BONDS" was
<br />read a second time and placed upon its final passage. The vote upon the final
<br />passage of said order was:
<br />Ayes: Commissioners Laws, Wilson and Cobb
<br />Noes: None.
<br />The Chairman then announced that the order entitled: 'ORDER AUTHORIZING
<br />X1,000,000 SCHOOL BUILDING BONDS" had passed.
<br />Thereunon, upon motion of Commissioner Laws, seconded by Commissioner
<br />::ilson and carried, the order introduced and passed on first reading on October
<br />3, 1949, entitled: "ORDER AUTHORIZING 5250,000 COURTHOUSE BONDS" wen read a
<br />second time and placed upon its final passage, The vote upon the final passage
<br />of said order was:
<br />Ayes: Commissioners Laws, Wilson and Cobb
<br />Noes: None.
<br />The Chairman then announced that the order entitled: "ORDER AUTHORIZING
<br />.,'250,000 COURTHOUSE BONDS" had passed.
