308 Minutes of the Board of Commissioners <br />Tuesday, July 5, 1949 <br />The Board met at the usual hour in the Commissioners' Room at the Court- <br />house. Present: Collier Cobb, Jr., Chairman, Ben F. ililson and H. G. Laws, <br />Commissioners. <br />Mr. B. L. Miller presented a road petition requesting the State Highway & <br />Public Works Commission to build a now road, beginning near IPew Bethel Church <br />on Highway Ho, 57, and connecting with the State maintained road at J. K. Laws' <br />place. Length of road, 2 miles. The Petition was ordered to be held for in- <br />vestigation. <br />Mrs. Kathryn Hamrick, Home Demonstration Agent, appeared and stated that <br />her <br />department had been very busy <br />during the month holding a variety of meet- <br />ings over the county and that <br />she spent one <br />week in Raleigh, attending the <br />annual conference. <br />Fir. Simpson L. Efland, Chairman, <br />Torn <br />Council, Efland, il. C., appeared <br />and <br />presented uetitions for hardsurfacing <br />approximately 16 miles of roads in <br />and <br />around Efland, which he described <br />as follows: <br />1 -a - Efland -Ridge Road <br />1 -b - Efland Community Road <br />1 -c - High Rock Road. <br />Mr, <br />Efland requested that the <br />Board approve <br />these petitions immediately so <br />they could be presented to the <br />State Highway <br />& Public 110'rks Commission for <br />their consideration. <br />The Board informed Ur. Efland <br />that they were contemplating a number of <br />such <br />petitions.from different <br />sections of <br />the County, and they did not think <br />it would be fair to other sections <br />to approve <br />his petition until they had. <br />the <br />rhole before them. <br />They assured <br />Mr. Efland that whon the requests <br />_picture <br />from other sections veers in their <br />hands, his <br />notition would receive careful <br />consideration, along with the <br />others. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner <br />Laws, duly <br />seconded by Commissioner Wilson, <br />it vies ordered that C. B.
