Minutes of the Hoard of Commissioners <br />ronday April 4, 1949 <br />The Board met at 10:00 o'clock A,M. in the Commissioners'room at the <br />Courthouse. Present; Collier Cobb, Jr., Chairman, flan F. Wilson and Hubert <br />G. Laws, Commissioners. <br />The minutes of the March meetings were read and approved. — <br />Jun1A[us Jones of Route'1, Ffland, N. C. appeared with his father who <br />asked that Juniaus be exempt from further listing and payment of poll tax <br />due to physical disabilities. <br />NOW THEREFORE, upon motion of Commissioner Ylilson, duly seconded by <br />Commissioner Laws, Juni9[us Jones is hereby exempt from further listing and <br />payment of poll tax so long as present disability exists. <br />Dr. 0. David Garvin appeared and recommended that the Board appoint <br />Doctors Nathan and Vine as Rabies Inspectors in addition to Dr. Chrismon <br />who was aopo'_nted at a previous meeting. <br />NOVI THEREFORE, upon motion of Commissioner Laws, duly seconded by Com- <br />missioner WS1son,Doctors Nathan and Vine are hereby appointed Rabies Inspec- <br />tors for Orange County. <br />Mr. Grady Durham appeared and presented a road petition asking that the <br />road leading from J. T. Bradshaw's Store at White Cross to the Chatham County <br />Line by way of Antioch Church be hardsurfaced. The Board ordered the petition <br />held for further study. <br />Mrs. Jean N. Heer, Superintendent of Public Welfare appeared and presents <br />the 1949 -1950 Aid to Blind budgat calling for an appropriation of S1232.40. <br />Upon motion the Board unanimously approved this appropriation.The following <br />changes were also approved in Aid to Blind cases: <br />Decrease in grant of Jesse Pratt from P37.00 per month to <br />A24.00 per month. <br />increase in grant of Polly Wrenn from A24.00 per month to <br />S27.00 per month. <br />Increase In grant of Minnie Terrell from S16.00 per month <br />to 1`.19.00 per month. _ <br />Mr. A. K. McAdams, Secretary of Production Marketing Association appeared <br />before the Board and reported that a considerable number of farmers in the —� <br />county were participating in the conservation program, <br />Don S. Matheson appeared and reported splendid progress in the programs <br />sponsored by the Agricultural Department. <br />Upon motiom of Commissioner Saws, duly seconded by Commissioner 'Wilson, <br />Mr. Van L. Kenyon, Jr. is hereby appointed Electrical Inspector for the North <br />ern part of Orange County. Said appointment e`fective April 15, 1949. <br />Upon motion, Ira A. Ward was appointed Orange County Accountant for a <br />term of two years, beginning April 1, 1949• <br />It was brought to the attention of the Board that the 1949 General <br />Assembly of North Carolina had passed an act giving the Board of Commissioner; <br />of Orange County the authority to' In its descretion, defer or postpone the <br />revaluation of property for the years of 191L9 and 1950. <br />After full discussion upon motion of Commissioner Wilson and duly seconds( <br />by Commissioner Laws, the following resolution was unanimously adopted: <br />Resolved: That the revaluation and reappraisal of property for taxation <br />in Orange County be defered and postponed for the years 1949 and 1950 as <br />provided in the act of the 1949 General Assembly. <br />CONTINUED <br />
