2 <br /> PROCLAMATION <br /> Whereas, Nursing Homes and other long term care facilities have accepted the responsibility for <br /> providing long term health care services to the citizens of our community; and <br /> Whereas, Over 600 residents reside in five nursing homes in Orange County, which are <br /> Britthaven of Chapel Hill, Carol Woods, Chapel Hill Rehabilitation and Healthcare, <br /> Meadowbrook Manor, and SunBridge for Hillsborough; and <br /> Whereas, The quality of care and quality of life of nursing home residents depends upon the daily, <br /> conscientious services and hands-on care provided by long term care facility staff, as <br /> well as the honoring of the federal Nursing Home Resident Bill of Rights; and <br /> Whereas, Nursing Home Community Advisory Committee members, who serve as grassroots <br /> ombudsmen, advocate for the rights of nursing home residents, as well as the physical, <br /> mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being of these residents; and <br /> Whereas, Nursing Home Community Advisory Committee members are trained volunteers who <br /> collaborate closely with residents, family members, facility staff, the Long Term Care <br /> Ombudsman Program, the Orange County Department on Aging, and regulatory <br /> agencies to ensure quality care in full recognition of residents' dignity and individuality; <br /> Now, Therefore, We, the Orange County Commissioners, do hereby proclaim May 15— 19, <br /> 2000 as <br /> National Nursing Home Week 2000 <br /> And urge all citizens to join with us in this observation.
