ORANGE COUNTY DISABILITY AWARENESS WEEK <br /> May 1-5,2000 <br /> PROCLAMATION <br /> WHEREAS, persons with disabilities have abilities, talents and dreams, and <br /> with respect and acceptance, individuals with disabilities— <br /> mental or physical— can participate in our society and the <br /> work force to their fullest capacity, and <br /> WHEREAS, although Orange County offers many opportunities for people <br /> with disabilities, some of our citizens remain unaware of the <br /> capabilities and aspirations of people with disabilities, and <br /> WHEREAS, Orange County recognizes that persons with disabilities are a <br /> resource we cannot afford to overlook or not use to their <br /> highest potential, and <br /> WHEREAS, Orange County is committed to taking all steps necessary for <br /> the full integration of people with disabilities into our <br /> community, and <br /> WHEREAS, The Orange County Disability Awareness Council works to <br /> promote opportunities for disabled citizens to work and live in <br /> an environment free of barriers imposed by architecture, <br /> attitude, and/or lack of opportunity, and <br /> WHEREAS, Orange County is proud to be a participant in the American <br /> Disability Act (ADA)which will celebrate its tenth anniversary <br /> this year. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the ORANGE COUNTY BOARD <br /> OF COMMISSIONERS do hereby proclaim May 1-5, 2000 as <br /> DISABILITY AWARENESS WEEK <br /> in Orange County and urge our citizens to become more aware of the needs, <br /> capabilities and hopes of people with disabilities. <br /> This, the 3`d day of May, 2000. <br /> 1 4 Aosesarey, Jr., Chair <br /> Board of Commissioners <br />
