219 <br />Minutes of the Board of Commissioners <br />Monday, March 7, 1949 <br />The Board met at the usual hour in the Commissioner's Room at the <br />Courthouse with all members present. <br />The minutes of the February meeting were read and approved. <br />A delegation from the Carr community appeared and asked the Board <br />"— to approve a petition for hardsurfacing a read leading from Cams store <br />to the Caswell County Line. No action was taken. <br />The following road petitions were also held over for consideration <br />at a later date: <br />Petition to open a road beginning at the end of Weever Road at the city <br />limits of Carrboro, N. C. and extend to a point on the Highway in front of <br />the home of George Williams. <br />Petition to change and straighten a road in Little River Township known <br />as the Kiger Road. <br />Mrs. Kathryn Hamrick, Home Demonstration Agent and Miss Virginia <br />Cathay appeared and reported on their work for the month of February. <br />Floyd C. Caudle of Route 72, Mebane, N. C. presented a certificate <br />of disability from the Veterans AdminiEstration and asked that he be <br />from further listing and payment of poll tax. <br />NOV: THEREFORE, upon motion of Commissioner Wilson, duly seconded by <br />Commissioner Laws, Floyd C. Caudle is hereby exempt from further listing <br />and payment of poll tax vo long as present disability exists. <br />Bill of 0. R. Smith asking payment for five goats killed by dogs could <br />not be approved due to goats not being listed for taxes. <br />n Upon motion of Commissioner Laws, seconded by Commissioner Nilson <br />grant of Warden Mann as aid to blind was increased from TWENTY DOLLARS <br />per month to TVENTY FIVE DOLLARS per month. <br />( -' Upon motion of Commissioner Wilson, duly seconded by Commissioner Laws, <br />the Board of Education is hereby given authority to use that part of money <br />set up as salary of Mr. R. H. Claytor for clerical help in the office of the <br />Superintendent of Schools. <br />E. M. Lynch, Clerk of Superior Court submitted his annual report, which <br />is in accordance with Section 2 -46 of the General Statutes of North Carolina. <br />Said report filed in Minute Docket No. 4, at page 159. <br />Sarah L. Lawson, Negro Home Demonstration Agent turned in a report on <br />the work done through her office for the month of February. <br />RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION <br />Xhareas the Board of Commissioners and the Board of Education of orange County <br />at a joint meeting hold October a, 1949 appointed a Fact Finding Committee to <br />study the needs of Orange County and make a report to the said boards, which <br />committee was composed of the following members: <br />James Webb, Chairman Hubert Robinson <br />Mrs. C. D. Jones J. B. Johns <br />J. L. Brown, Jr. Gordon Blackwell <br />H. G. Coleman, Sr. Mrs. John Gillin <br />Z. C. Burton Lemuel Cheek <br />B. C. Corbett C. E. Tear <br />John Efland Raymond Andrews <br />Mrs. Clyde Walker <br />l:hersas this committee acce.ptod the responsibility placed upon its and, Whereas <br />the members of the various sub- co:mnittees worked diligently at their appointed <br />tasks; and, <br />Nhereas the reports of the sub - committees compiled into one report of the comml- <br />tee-as-awbole will be of great value in planning the future progress of the <br />ounty; <br />OW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: <br />That the two boards express their appreciation <br />(1) to the commitee as a whole, and to Mr. Rabb, Chairman, for his excellent <br />leadership; <br />(2) to the sub- committees for their unselfish work, and to the chairmen, Mrs. <br />Jones, Mr. Burton, Mr. Johns for formulation of plans; <br />(3) to each individual member for the fine spirit displayed and keen interest <br />shown in the progress of Orange County. <br />E IT FURTHER RESOLVED: <br />That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the minutes of each board and that <br />a copy be sent to each member of the committee. <br />
