~~ <br />~I <br />The Roard met at 10;00 o~clock A. M. in the Commlael opera Room at the <br />Courthouse: Present, Collier Cobb, Jr., Chairman, San F. Wilson end <br />Hubert G. Lnws, Commissioners. <br />The minutes of the October moe tang was read and approved. <br />Don 5. Matheeon, County Fsrm Agent and Ed A. Barnes, Asaietent County <br />Agent appeared and reported on the work being done through their office. <br />Mr. Aarnea stated t?~at the awlne indua try Sn the county was comas ng along <br />nicely, eighteen animals were exibl tad at the State Fair, two of them <br />winning blueribbona, he stated that in bee or two years he thought Orange <br />County would have more top Dual Sty Spotted Polnnd-China hogs then any county <br />in the State.Also that the calf show and sale which was held at the livestock <br />market was quite a evcce se, 99 calves ware shown, 29 heifara ware Bold, the <br />top heifer bringing $229.00. He also repotted that they had completed the akin <br />the fifty corn conta atante and found that eleven produced over 100 bushels <br />par acre, and that he thought tho average corn yield for the County would <br />be'eround 3$ bushels par acre. <br />!dr. Matheeon reported that the Schley Grange wns_ competing for pr3 zee <br />offered by Sears Aoabuck & Company for excelling activities, the ScleyG?.aaga <br />hen already won first prize in the State which was ~`200.OO,and ie one of the <br />sixth top granges in the nation. The National winner hen not as yet been <br />selected but thinks ScIDley has a good chance of winning the national prize, <br />which will be a new grange hall. Mr. !dntheson also reported on the advantages <br />of artificial breeding of dairy cattle. <br />Mre. Kathryn Hamrick, Hama Demonstration Agent and 611se Virginia Cathay, <br />A aeietant Aome Agent appeared and reported on their work for the month of <br />October. Miss Cathay reported that she had been pretty busy with Home Demon- <br />etretlon Club meetings. <br />Mra. Hamrick reported on curb market conditions, she stated thet all <br />of the selling apace wee filled, that Sf she had the apace she thought she <br />could have ten or twelve more sellers .she also reported on the floor sanding <br />demonetrnt ion held nt Mrs. Latta~s and stated that anyone deair7ng :to sand <br />their own Tloors could rent a sander from Coleman-Laws Company stn cost of <br />$7.00 per day. <br />Mr. W. H. Wrenn of the Cadnr~Grove community appeared end reported that <br />he.:had previously filed ~oroad pe tltion nsking that the-.S to to Highway and <br />Public Vlorks Commi salon/build and maintain a road leading by hie home, but <br />since filing this petition he had worked up a 2I} foot road and would like <br />the State to take over and maintain same. The Roard informed hir. Nrenn they <br />would make an inveat~ga tion to seo Sf anything could be don® 6o help him. <br /> Mrs. Jean M. F.sar, Supe rlntendent of Public Vlelfere appeared and stated <br />tha t the Board of Vlelfere was now me eting on the last Wednesday of each <br />mon th Sne teed of first M~ndaye.
