Gordon Battle Courtroom in Hillsborough, North Carolina. <br /> <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: <br /> Chair Stephen H. Halkiotis and Commissioners <br />Margaret W. Brown, Alice M. Gordon and Barry Jacobs <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONER ABSENT: <br /> Moses Carey, Jr. <br />COUNTY ATTORNEY PRESENT: <br /> Geoffrey Gledhill <br />COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: <br /> County Manager John M. Link, Jr., Assistant County Manager <br />Rod Visser and Clerk to the Board Beverly A. ALL RECORDINGS OF THE MEETING WILL <br />BE KEPT FOR 5 YEARS. <br /> <br />PUBLIC CHARGE <br /> <br /> Chair Halkiotis read the public charge. <br /> <br />1. ADDITIONS OR CHANGES TO THE AGENDA <br /> <br /> The Board added as item 5-c a Resolution Supporting Mental Health Association of Orange <br />County's Application for New Group Home for Adults with Mental Illness. <br /> <br />2. CITIZEN & AUDIENCE COMMENTS <br /> <br />a. Matters not on the Printed Agenda <br /> - NONE <br /> b. BOARD COMMENTS <br /> <br /> Commissioner Gordon made reference to an article in the newspaper today about the regional <br />rail system. She said that there are a number of details to work out. She thanked Karen Lincoln for <br />the information on high-speed rail and she asked for a map showing the route of the rail through <br />Orange County. <br /> Commissioner Gordon made reference to a letter from OWASA about reducing their allocation <br />from Lake Jordan from 10mgd to 5mgd. She said that the Commissioners should say something <br />soon if the Board would like to articulate anything. <br />th <br /> Commissioner Brown announced that on February 20, at the Southern Human Services <br />Center, the County's two advisory boards - the Adult Care Home Advisory Committee and the <br />Nursing Home Advisory Board - are going to meet with the County’s four legislators. She invited the <br />Board of County Commissioners to attend. The meeting is prior to the Commissioners' meeting on <br />that evening. <br /> Commissioner Jacobs reported that he and Chair Halkiotis met at the end of December with <br />representatives from Duke University to talk about Duke Forest and how the County can work with <br />Duke to protect the properties. Also, they spoke about offering the County first right of refusal when <br />and if Duke University chooses to divest themselves of certain properties. The meeting was very <br />cordial, positive and productive. The Duke Board of Trustees will discuss this issue in the spring. <br /> <br /> <br />
