)~~ Minutes of the Hoard of Commis si oaere <br />Monday, June ~, 1948 <br />The Board met at 10:00 o'clock A. M, Sn the building now used as the High- <br />way Patrol Office. All members were present ae follows: Collier Cobb, Jr., <br />Chairman, Hen F. Wilson and Hubert G. Lowe, Commiselonere. <br />The minutes of the May meeting were re ¢d and approved, <br />Several ladies repro sen tang ail of the Home Demonstrating Clubs in the <br />county appeared with pets bone from all clubs requesting the Commiesione re to <br />appropriate sufficient funds for the employment of an Aaei etant Home Demonstra- <br />tion Agent Sn the county. It was pointed out that Mrs, Satherlne Hamra ok'e <br />duties ae Home Demonstration Agent were very heavy and that an asel stant was <br />needed. The Hoard informed these ladies that their raque et would be given aver; <br />con ei deration. <br />Mre. Hamra ok then reported that her office had completed a very active and <br />sucoeeeful month of work. <br />Mr. R, 0. Forrest appeared end stated that the regl strati on books were not <br />in elphabetl cal order in several prenincte. He further stated that tho ee books <br />in some pre cartels were badly worn, Action on this matter was deferred until a <br />later data. <br />Upon motion, Eugene Lawe' Free Peddling Licen ee were renewed for Balling <br />Aawlei gh Products. <br />Mr. E, P, Berne e, Asei atent County Agent, appeared and stated that each <br />club member participating Sn the baby beef program had been rewarded with a ryad <br />profit on his animal. Mr. Barnes stated that hie office was planning to start <br />a purebred cow chain Sn the county similar to the present awlne program. He <br />likewl se reported splendid progress Sn the hybrid corn contest. <br />Mr. Davis and Mr. Emory appeared and presented the 1948-1949 budget reque~~ <br />for Capital Outlay for the Chapel Hill School e. <br />It was moved by Mr. Laws and seconded by Mr, Wilson that Mr. J, Dumont <br />Eekri dge's resignation from the po ei lion of pro eeauting attorney in the Orange <br />County Recorder's Court be accepted. Thin motion was pas aed unanimously: The <br />Hoard expressed its aopre ci anon to Mr. Eekrl dge for hie very capable services <br />in this capacity for the first year of the operation of the court. <br />It was moved by Mr. Wilson, seconded by Mr. Lawe, and unanimously passed <br />that Mr. J, A. Farlow of Chapel Hill be appointed to fill the unexpired term ae <br />pro ae cuting aft orney;this term to end on the Piret Monday in December. <br />A petition was pre sen tad signed by forty-five calf zone to the effect that <br />the Htata Highway and Public Works Commie si on take over and maintain a one mile <br />section of the Old Durham Road whi eh loads Sn a southeasterly dire otion through <br />the McFarland property and that of Dr. Foy Roberson, This road leads out from <br />the old Lloyd Aaed and ie about three miles from Chapel Hill, North Caro l,ina. <br />Mr, H. G, Coleman, 9r„ appeared as chairman of a Hillsboro Ameri cart Legi,ot <br />Committee in an effort to secure an increase in salary for the Orange County <br />Service Officer, Mr. t4slter Wrenn. It was pointed out that Mr. Wrann's duties <br />required con eiderable travel and expense. <br />A pets tl on including the required number of si gnaturee was presented re- <br />questing the Htate HS ghivay Commission to take over and maintain that short sec- <br />tion of dirt road Just North oP Chapel Hill leading by the T, M, Crean home, <br />between Chapel Hill and the Unl vereity Al rport. Jean Heer, Superintendent of the Orange County Board oP Public Wolfer , <br />appeared and reported that Dr. I, G, Greer had agreed to replace Mr. Roy Hrown <br />on the Welfare Hoard. <br />It was brought to the attention of the Hoard that the second floor rooms o <br />the 6. W. Ray Building on Churton Htreet in Hillsboro was available for the use <br />of the Welfare Department, <br />After full di eoueeion, upon motion duly made and seconded, the following <br />resolution wsa unanimously adnptad: <br />Resolved; That all rooms on the second floor of the C. W, Ray Building, <br />located on tl-e East side of Churton Sire et Sn the Town of Hillsboro, be lea Bed <br />Yor a term of two years from this date at the monthly rm~tal of $35,00 per mont <br />with option for an additional term oP two years at the same rental rate. The <br />Chairman of the Board Ss hereby authorized and directed, on behalf of the Hoard <br />to execute a proper lease agreement which the 9e oretary of the Hoard shall at to <br />The Board then approved the payment of $15.00 to Mr, E.
