Matters not on the Printed Agenda
Geoff Hathaway spoke on behalf of the Recreation and Parks Advisory Council and
thanked the County Commissioners for the contributions for the Orange County Cool Jazz
Festival, which is this Saturday. He distributed t-shirts, tickets to a reception afterwards, and a
schedule of events. He explained the scope of the event.
Esphur Foster spoke on behalf of Club Nova Clubhouse and the Board of Directors for
Club Nova Community, Inc. They are looking for continued support, as they become the
service providers for Club Nova. They want to offer the same quality of services that the
members are currently receiving. They recently submitted an application for tax-exempt status.
They want to enlarge the safety net for displaced persons who will be directly affected by
divesting of the mental health system. Until recently, Club Nova received between $170-
178,000 each year. These funds have been significantly reduced. Along with these reductions,
they have not received any bridge money to help them as they divest. They will submit to the
County applications for$200,000 a year. This amount is necessary just to sustain the current
level of programs and services.
