3 ,'�!e -e_)/ <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />A PROCLAMATION TO CO- SPONSOR THE 15TH ANNUAL CROP WALK WITH THE <br />INTER -FAITH COUNCIL FOR SOCIAL SERVICE AND TO ENCOURAGE ORANGE <br />COUNTY RESIDENTS TO WALK OR SPONSOR A WALKER TO MAKE A <br />DIFFERENCE FOR OUR COMMUNITY <br />WHEREAS, hunger and poverty are serious issues that affect people around the world, in every <br />country, in the United States, in the state of North Carolina, in every community and in Orange <br />County; and <br />WHEREAS, CROP WALK is Community Reaching Out to People, an annual event sponsored <br />nationally by Church World Services, one of the most effective relief services in the world; and <br />WHEREAS, CROP WALK is locally sponsored by the Inter -Faith Council for Social Service; <br />and <br />WHEREAS; CROP WALK is a 10 kilometer walk through the diverse streets of Carrboro and <br />Chapel Hill where anyone who wants to make a difference in the lives of hungry people can <br />walk; and <br />WHEREAS, contributions from CROP WALK will be used for refugees, disaster relief, and self - <br />help projects in more than 80 countries and to support IFC hunger - relief programs such as the <br />Community Kitchen in Chapel Hill and the IFC Food Pantry in Carrboro; and <br />WHEREAS, on Sunday, April 1, 2001 the Inter -Faith Council for Social Service invites walkers <br />from the Orange County to meet in the Carrboro Town Commons at 2:OOPM to walk in the 15th <br />Annual Carrboro -- Chapel Hill CROP WALK; and <br />WHEREAS, the Orange County Board of Commissioners encourages residents to become <br />CROPWALKERS or sponsor a WALKER and make a difference. for our community and the <br />world; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Orange County Board of Commissioners that we <br />recognize Sunday, April 1, 2001 as the official day for the 15th Annual CROP WALK and by <br />proclamation we agree to co- sponsor this event with the Inter -Faith Council for Social Service. <br />This the 20h day of March, 2001. <br />Steve Halkiotis, Chair <br />ItL- <br />
