Matters not on the Printed Agenda
Madeline Grumet said that in March, Commissioner Halkiotis and Commissioner
Brown gathered people such as herself, President Friday, Jahn Darnan, and others from the
University to discuss matters about how the two school districts could collaborate. From those
discussions came the request that University officials might be able to assist in deliberations.
She presented an approved project from the University for $25,000 for three faculty and three
graduate students to work, starting in June through November, to review materials and identify
areas of needs and resources for collaboration. The two superintendents would be on the
committee, and both have seen the proposal. The University has waived its indirect costs to
bring forward an economical proposal.
Commissioner Halkiotis said that this was a wonderful gesture and the Board
should write a letter to thank the University.
Chair Jacobs said that the next step is for the County to agree to participate in this
arrangement, and to empower the committee to proceed.
John Link asked if it was okay to address this by June 2°d and Ms. Grumet said yes.
Chair Jacobs said that Commissioner Carey would not be in attendance tonight
because he is visiting his mother out of town.
b.
