;~i ~s~aaa.~-oa3 <br />~-a~~a~ <br />~b <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />A RESOLUTION <br />SUPPORTING DIPLOMATIC SOLUTIONS TO END THE CONFLICT WITH IRAQ <br />WHEREAS, the men and women in the Armed Forces deserve our gratitude <br />for their service and bravery; and, <br />WHEREAS, our service personnel should be put in harm's way only for just <br />cause and there should be a swift conclusion to the war in order to bring <br />our men and women safely home; and, <br />WHEREAS, there are times when threats to our nation's survival and to <br />humanity abroad musf be met with force; and, <br />WHEREAS, while we support the values, the government and the citizen <br />soldiers of the United States, we applaud the efforts being made by the <br />United Nations and many of our allies in seeking a peaceful resolution to <br />the currenf Iraqi crisis; and <br />WHEREAS, in a time of economic difficulty at home .the present <br />Administration's policy will cost tens of billions of dollars that would be <br />befter spent on health care, social services, education and infrastructure, <br />both here and in other countries. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Orange County Board of <br />Commissioners calls upon the government of the United States to return to <br />diplomatic solutions to its differences with Iraq, preserve the lives of our <br />service personnel and others at risk in and near Iraq, and become a partner <br />in fhe world community in brokering a peaceful accord, and that this <br />resolution be forwarded to federal and state legislative delegations on <br />behalf of the citizens of Orange County. <br />This the 24t" day of March 2003 <br />~~ ~~ <br />Margaret W.
