APPROVED JUNE 2, 1998 <br /> MINUTES <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> REGULAR MEETING <br /> April 7, 1998 <br /> The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, April 7, 1998 at <br /> 7:30 p.m. in the Judge F. Gordon Battle Superior Courtroom in Hillsborough, North Carolina. <br /> COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Margaret W. Brown, and Commissioners <br /> Moses Carey, Jr., William L. Crowther, Alice M. Gordon and Stephen H. Halkiotis. <br /> COUNTY ATTORNEY PRESENT: Geoffrey Gledhill <br /> COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager John M. Link, Jr., Assistant County Managers <br /> Rod Visser and Albert Kittrell and Clerk to the Board Beverly A. ALL RECORDINGS OF THE MEETING <br /> WILL BE KEPT FOR 5 YEARS. <br /> 1. ADDITIONS OR CHANGES TO THE AGENDA <br /> NONE <br /> 2. CITIZEN &AUDIENCE COMMENTS <br /> a. Matters on the Printed Agenda <br /> Chair Brown stated that citizens who have indicated a desire to speak on an item that <br /> appears on the printed agenda will be recognized at the appropriate time. <br /> b. Matters not on the Printed Agenda <br /> Charles Tuck spoke on behalf of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America program. He has <br /> been asked by the local chapter to do a study to see if one could be started in this County. He needs to <br /> know what the County can do to help. <br /> Commissioner Carey said that he spoke to Mr. Tuck and encouraged him to speak before the <br /> Board of County Commissioners. He hopes that the County can do something to help him in this effort. <br /> He feels we need to refer this matter to the manager to see what we can do to help this organization. <br /> PUBLIC CHARGE <br /> The Chair dispensed with the reading of the Public Charge. <br /> 3. BOARD COMMENTS <br /> Regarding a possible trip to Clark County, GA, Chair Brown asked if anyone wanted to take the <br /> trip and the County Commissioners indicated they would all like to do so depending on the date selected. <br /> Commissioner Halkiotis made reference to a letter from Jay Bryan about the litter on 1-40 and <br /> Geoffrey Gledhill said that DOT has cleaned up all of 1-40 within the last two days. He suggested <br /> writing a letter to our legislative delegation with a copy to the State Highway Patrol about this issue. <br /> Chair Brown distributed resolutions on Zero Waste and Producer Responsibility. She asked <br /> the County Commissioners to let her know if they would like to consider these for adoption. <br />
