MINUTES <br />"ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />JANUARY 17, 1989 <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, January <br />17, 1989 at 7:30 p.m. in the courtroom of the old Post Office, Chapel Hill, North <br />Carolina. <br />BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Chair Moses Carey, Jr., and Commissioners Stephen <br />Halkiotis, John Hartwell, Shirley E. Marshall and Don Willhoit. <br />ATTORNEY PRESENT: Geoffrey Gledhill.. <br />STAFF PRESENT: Gaunty Manager John M. Link, Jr., Assistant Gounty Manager Albert <br />Kittrell, Deputy Clerk to the Board Kathy Baker, Clerk to the Board Beverly A. Blythe, <br />Planning Director Marvin Collins, Finance Airector Ellen Liston, Economic Development <br />Director Sylvia Price, County Engineer Paul Thames and Recreation and Parks Personnel <br />Wilma Tinney. <br />A. BOARD COMMENTS <br />Chair Moses Carey added to the agenda an Executive Session for the purpose of <br />discussing a litigation matter and moved the fire commissioner appointment from the <br />appointment agenda to the decision agenda - item G4. <br />Commissioner Hartwell asked for suggestions from the Board Members for the TJCOG <br />retreat that will be held next week. <br />MANAGER COMMENTS <br />,. . <br />'" County Manager John Link corrected Item G-2 - Page 2 - G.th line to read "can be <br />made and accepted by June and ......." <br />B. PUBLIC COMMENTS <br />1. Matters on the Printed Agenda <br />Chair Carey stated that everyone who desires to speak to an item on the printed <br />agenda will be recognized at the time that item appears on the agenda. <br />2. Matters not on the Printed Agenda <br />Karen Metzguer spoke about a meeting to be held in Washington, DC called <br />"Children 89 - the First l00 Days". She asked if the Commissioners could help find <br />funding to send some of the youth of Orange County to this conference. She stated that <br />they are hoping enough youth will attend this conference so that they may be active <br />participants in the work sessions. <br />After a brief discussion, the County Manager was requested to pursue the idea of <br />private funding by the local youth groups. <br />C. MINUTES <br />Motion was made by Commissioner Hartwell, seconded by Commissioner Halkiotis to <br />approve the minutes for July 25, 1988 as amended. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS. <br />Motion was made by Commissioner Hartwell., seconded by Commissioner Halkiotis to <br />approve the minutes for August 22, 1988 as circulated. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS. <br />L <br />
