r 1~~ MINUTES ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMI~ZISSIOAIERS t•IARCH 5, 1984 1 The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on I+ionday, March 5, 1984 at 7:30 p.m. in the Commissioners' Room of the Orange County Courthouse, Hillsborough, P7orth Carolina. Commissioners Present; Don Willhoit, Chair and Commissioners Shirley Marshall, tdorman Walker and Richard Whitted. Conunissioner Ben _ Lloyd was absent. None 2 • Tlrat~n~n__x11~ grintEO p,~{enaa Commissioner Willhoit added a letter of request for monies from the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and introduced Reverend Frank Perry of the Inter-Faith Council who reported that because of the growing percentage of older people there is a great need for adequate housing. The Inter-Faith Council has been sensitive to this need and some months ago the Community Housing Alternatives, Inc. began to construct apartments for the elderly and the handicapped. The Adelaide Walters Apartments are located on Airport Road just north of the Chapel Hill Town offices. With the restriction of funds many amenities had to be cut from the project and a lobby had to be deleted. A lobby could be built for an additional 59,500. This lobby is needed to serve as a waiting room and also for monitoring the traffic coming into the apartments. Reverend Perry presented a copy of the floor plan and explained the layout of the lobby which would be 11 x 17 feet. A local church has promised 54,500 for this project and Reverend Perry requested 55.000.00 from the Board. All persons from Orange County who meet the requirements ire eligible to live in these apartments. Commissioner Whitted made a motion far approval of the allocation of 55,000 for the lobby area for the Adelaide Walters Apartments. Conunissianer Y7alker requested additional time to study the project before making a decision and requested a delay in the vote until the full Board is present. Commissioner Yillhoit spoke in support of the project and granted the postponement of this request until tdarch 13, 1984.
