r <br />1~~ <br />MINUTES <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMI~ZISSIOAIERS <br />t•IARCH 5, 1984 <br />1 <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on <br />I+ionday, March 5, 1984 at 7:30 p.m. in the Commissioners' Room of the <br />Orange County Courthouse, Hillsborough, P7orth Carolina. <br />Commissioners Present; Don Willhoit, Chair and Commissioners <br />Shirley Marshall, tdorman Walker and Richard Whitted. Conunissioner Ben <br />_ Lloyd was absent. <br />A. ~g~1~p ~OMMEIv'TS <br />Commissioner Marshall has comments about the January 23, 1984 <br />minutes. <br />Commissioner Willhoit moved up Item E-8 to consider first. <br />B• AUDIE~S~._._COI`IMEI~TS <br />1• [Matter&, pri,_,tj1p_Printed~~~. <br />None <br />2 • Tlrat~n~n__x11~ grintEO p,~{enaa <br />Commissioner Willhoit added a letter of request for monies from <br />the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and introduced Reverend Frank Perry of <br />the Inter-Faith Council who reported that because of the growing <br />percentage of older people there is a great need for adequate housing. <br />The Inter-Faith Council has been sensitive to this need and some months <br />ago the Community Housing Alternatives, Inc. began to construct apartments <br />for the elderly and the handicapped. The Adelaide Walters Apartments are <br />located on Airport Road just north of the Chapel Hill Town offices. With <br />the restriction of funds many amenities had to be cut from the project and <br />a lobby had to be deleted. A lobby could be built for an additional <br />59,500. This lobby is needed to serve as a waiting room and also for <br />monitoring the traffic coming into the apartments. Reverend Perry <br />presented a copy of the floor plan and explained the layout of the lobby <br />which would be 11 x 17 feet. A local church has promised 54,500 for this <br />project and Reverend Perry requested 55.000.00 from the Board. <br />All persons from Orange County who meet the requirements ire <br />eligible to live in these apartments. <br />Commissioner Whitted made a motion far approval of the allocation of <br />55,000 for the lobby area for the Adelaide Walters Apartments. <br />Conunissianer Y7alker requested additional time to study the project <br />before making a decision and requested a delay in the vote until the full <br />Board is present. <br />Commissioner Yillhoit spoke in support of the project and granted <br />the postponement of this request until tdarch 13, 1984. <br />C. ~~'rFc <br />Commissioner Yr`illhait delayed action on the Minutes of June 21, and <br />December 5, 1983 until the full Board is present. <br />Commissioner T~Tarshall moved and Commissioner Flhitted seconded <br />approval of the P?inutes for July 1, 1983 as circulated.
