Whitted, Chair, and Com- <br /> 12. missioners Ben Lloyd, Shirley E. Marshall , Norman Walker, and <br /> 139 Don Willhoit. <br /> U. <br /> Chapel Hill-Carrboro Board of Education Members present: <br /> 15. Mr. Edwin Caldwell , Chair, and Ms. Edith' tll iott, Ms. Verla Insko, <br /> 16, Ms. Phyllis Sockwell and Ms. Ann Wileman. <br /> 17. Board of Education member not present: Mr. Ted Parrish. <br /> 18. Commissioner Whitted announced that this was a special meeting <br /> 19. for the purpose of receiving the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Board of <br /> 20. Education budget for Fiscal, 1983-84. <br /> - <br /> 21. Mr. Caldwell reminded the Board that investment in the children <br /> 229 is the greatest resource. He added that the Board of Education <br /> 230 had evaluated its programs in terms of their usefulness and this <br /> ;24. budget reflected that evaluation process. Mr. Caldwell said the <br /> 25, <br /> way educational and other programs is funded. needs to be examined. <br /> 26. Following Mr. Caldwell 's remarks Dr. Pamela Mayer, Superin- <br /> �79 tendent, reviewed the proposed budget with the Commissioners. Dr. <br /> 28. Mayer said a primary item is a salary increase, either a 4% across <br /> 29. the board increase or a one step increment for all personnel . The <br /> 30. Board of Education is requesting a .06¢ increase in the supplemental <br /> 31. district tax, and $615/per pupil . Dr. Mayer said the largest item in <br /> 32. the budget with the palary and fringes is capital . The capital request <br /> _ <br /> includes current projects along with 1/10 of the ten year plan costs. <br /> Dr. Mayer said that this year they had appropriated about $200,.000 of <br /> 34- <br /> the $500,000 unappropriated 35. � fund balance. in order to fund the budget. <br /> After Dr. Mayer completed her review Commissioners sought <br /> 36, <br /> clarification to questions -and thanked Dr. Mayer for her presentation. <br /> 37. <br /> 38.
