Gordon, Verla C. Insko and Don <br /> Willhoit. <br /> COUNTY ATTORNEY PRESENT: Geoffrey Gledhill <br /> COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager John M. Link, Jr. , Assistant <br /> County Manager Rod Visser, Deputy Clerk to the Board Kathy Baker, Clerk to the <br /> Board Beverly A. Blythe, Assistant Public Works Director Mary Barbour, Finance <br /> Director Ken Chavious, Planning Director Marvin Collins, Deputy Sheriff II <br /> Archie Daniel, Budget and Management Analyst Donna Dean, Budget Director Sally <br /> Kost, Commissioner for Women Director Lucy Lewis, Tax Assessor Kermit Lloyd, <br /> Recreation and Parks Director MaryAnne Moore, Health Director Dan Reimer, <br /> County Engineer Paul Thames, Solid Waste Coordinator Beth Wickham, <br /> NOTE: All items referred to in these minutes are in the Permanent Agenda File <br /> in the Clerk's office. <br /> I. ADDITIONS OR CHANGES TO THE AGENDA <br /> Two names were added to appointments for consideration. Margaret Brown <br /> has indicated an interest to serve on the Planning Board and Tom Mason has <br /> indicated an interest to be appointed to the South Orange Fire District. <br /> II. AUDIENCE COMMENTS <br /> A. MATTERS ON THE PRINTED AGENDA <br /> Chair Carey announced that he would recognize at the appropriate <br /> time those citizens who have indicated a desire to speak. <br /> B. MATTERS NOT ON THE PRINTED AGENDA <br /> Several citizens expressed their concern about a proposed landfill <br /> site in Eno Township. Linda 011is stated her opposition to continue the <br /> landfill search and her support to implement a strict waste management plan. <br /> Walt Swainey spoke about morality and cost of the proposed landfill. Dr. Ruth <br /> Zweidinger spoke about a recent supreme court decision and questioned if <br /> Orange County could prevent other jurisdictions from using the landfill. <br /> Dorothy Dailey questioned the process of the Landfill Site Search Committee <br /> and her desire to send the garbage outside of the County. Caroline Long <br /> submitted a letter from the Eno River Association and asked what is being done <br /> to stop dumping by out-of-county residents. Paul Jones feels that recycling <br /> is the best alternative to a landfill. Willie Glover asked why the County is <br /> considering such large sites and Commissioner Willhoit responded to his <br /> concerns. Lori Ventura expressed concern about a small creek that runs into <br /> the Eno. Mark Schultz feels the County should spend more money on waste <br /> reduction. <br />
