I <br /> 501 <br /> MINUTES <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> JUNE 2, 1980 adjourned to JUNE 3, 1980 <br /> N <br /> The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in special session on <br /> Tuesday, June 3, 1980, at 7:30 p.m., in the Commissioners Room, Orange <br /> County Courthouse, in Hillsborough, North Carolina. <br /> i <br /> Commissioners present: Commissioner Richard Whitted, Chairman, <br /> and Commissioners Norman Walker, Norman Gustaveson, Don Willhoit and <br /> Anne Barnes. <br /> Agenda Item 14: Report by Transportation Planner <br /> Mr. Richard Miller, Transportation Planner, reported to the <br /> Board the status of his research on a county-wide transportation <br /> system. The Board raised the following questions: Can this <br /> system provide an equal level of service for less money or a <br /> a higher level of service for the same amount of money? What is <br /> the current level of service needed? What portion of existing <br /> , transportation budgets is local funds? What are the implications? <br /> -- Who would coordinate agency transportation, develop routes, and <br /> expand county transportation services? Would the Board be faced with <br /> requests to backup new vehicles? How can the County's plan be <br /> coordinated with Chapel Hill's transportation plan? <br /> Agenda Item 17: Appointments <br /> Appointments to the Board of Health were deferred. <br /> Commissioner Gustaveson nominated Mr. Paul McCallister and <br /> Commissioner Barnes nominated Ms. Virginia Parker to serve on the <br /> Health and Medical Care Advisory Council. <br /> There being no further nominations, Commissioner Gustaveson <br /> Th g <br /> moved, seconded by Commissioner Willhoit, that Mr. Paul McAllister <br /> and Ms. Virginia Parker be appointed to serve on the Health and <br /> Medical Care Advisory Council. Vote: ayes, 5; noes, 0. <br /> The Board requested the Clerk check with the Mayor of Chapel <br /> Hill concerning a recommendation received from the Town Clerk <br /> that Mrs. Carol Davidson be appointed to the Council on Aging. <br /> s ' <br /> I <br />
