ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: May 5, 2009 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. ~-- C~ <br />SUBJECT: Reappointment of Tax Collector <br />DEPARTMENT: County Manager PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Laura Blackmon, 245-2300 <br />PURPOSE: To consider reappointing Jo Roberson as Orange County Tax Collector for afour- <br />yearterm effective July 1, 2009. <br />BACKGROUND: Chapter 105-349 of the North Carolina General Statutes requires the Board of <br />County Commissioners appoint a tax collector "for a term to be determined by the governing <br />board". Jo Roberson was appointed as Orange County Tax Collector in January 2000 to <br />complete the unexpired term of Ginger Rolfe ending June 30, 2001. Ms. Roberson was <br />subsequently reappointed for terms July 1, 2001 -June 30, 2003 and July 1, 2003 -June 30, <br />2005. Ms. Roberson was reappointed to a four-year term beginning on July 1, 2005. <br />It is proposed that Ms. Roberson be reappointed for afour-year term from July 1, 2009 through <br />June 30, 2013. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with consideration of the <br />reappointment. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends the Board reappoint Jo Roberson as <br />Orange County Tax Colletor for a four-year term from July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2013. <br />
